I was young when I called my ma @ asked her what she was doing. She would always be watching The Golden Girls. She had a few friends that hung around together like them. One by one we have seen them meet Jesus. Sophia your among friends. As a caretaker I have gotten a patient of mine interested in the show every morning. Breakfast isn't the same any more without the girls joining us. Each @ every one of the Golden Girls has a special place in my heart as well, since I have grown up with them myself. Until we meet in the great beyond GOD BLESS EACH @ EVERY ONE.

I watched the Golden Girls when they first came on TV. I continue to watch them everynight when I come home from work. Estelle Getty was a wonderful actress and made the show come alive. Her comments were always funny but wise, her way was that of independence and her acting was fantastic. I love the show. I can't begin to say how much she will be missed. Betty, Rue and Bea - they were great but you have to give the 'Kudo's" to Estelle! I fondly remember one episode where Dorothy had Sophia be an Activities Director at a nursing home and Sophia found out that she was really there to be 'watched' while Dorothy worked. Oh, how she made us realize that even as we age - we should be given consideration as to our decisions and future. May Estelle rest in the arms of God because she will be missed so very much. My condolences to the family - her real family and her TV family. May she rest in peace.

I loved watching GOLDEN GIRLS when they were on NBC. I remember coming home and my roommate and I watching it while studying for finals. Two college girls so enamoured of 4 women that no matter what we would not leave our apartment not even for a date lol. . Now as I'm married I watch it every night and again I'm enamoured of how these 4 women could make you want to grow old and be like them. My favorite was Sophia. She is the grandmother we all wanted and loved. She told it as it was and didn't care. ....so you thought, but deep down things mattered. You will be greatly missed Estelle a.k.a Sophia, but never forgotten. God has a great Angel up there and we will see you soon . Thank you for making us Laugh. The four of you are some of the best comedic actresses this world has ever had.

I thanks to all Golden Girls for such a magnificent comedy and for making laughs on rough times. Estelle was and will always be my favorite. That show was genuine and after all these years continue to be one of the best shows. Recently my nephew asked me why I see those old shows instead of the new ones, and I said because they are really funny and it teach a little bit in every episode. Now I'm proud to say that my nephew, 12 years old is a fan of this show. Thanks once again for make us laugh, and Estelle make my mother laugh in heaven like you did on earth. Bless you.

As I wipe the tears from my eyes I'm still trying to figure out how to say goodbye... after watching the Girls since the 80's and owning all the DVD's... I use to watch them every evening at dinner time on Lifetime... and then Lifetime changed the schedule so ever since then I watch one of the dvd's each evening at dinner time 7 days/week... also sometimes at bedtime and even more on the weekends. I have most of the dvd's memorized yet I still can't seem to get enough... I'm sure that will sound weird to some people but I just don't know how to explain it. We've all known Estelle has been in bad health for many years now... but at the same time I just could not let go of the hope that some day she would get better and that maybe one day my dream would come true that all 4 Golden Girls who I love equally would be able to do one last reunion show for us. For many years now I've been dreading the day that we would lose one of our Golden Girls... and now that it has happened I have to say that I still didn't think the pain would hurt this much... ---pausing to dry my eyes, I can hardly see the keyboard--- the pain I feel in my chest is almost unbearable and I've never felt this hurt or cried this hard for someone I've never met in person and didn't even know personally... and what's worse is that we're going to have to go thru this pain 3 more times when God takes away the last 3 Golden Girls from us. I never had a chance to thank Estelle for all the laughs and to say I Love You... But I'm taking this opportunity to tell the other 3... I Love You Bea I Love You Betty I Love You Rue Thank You all for the many years of laughter... you've made life much more enjoyable! I Love You all! Rest in Peace our dearest Estelle... you'll be deeply missed.

"The Golden Girls" will always be one of my favorite all time comedy shows. I have seen every episode about 5 times and each time I laugh as if it was the first. Estelle was one of a kind. I will watch the episodes with a little sadness now but at the same time grateful that we had her in our lives to give us so much laughter. I was fortunate to see her several years ago in the audience of a short lived series Betty White was doing with Marie Osmond. My sister and I were able to tell her how much we enjoyed her on "The Golden Girls". To everyone who loved and enjoyed her so much- Just remember her with Love and Laughter

"Sophia" always made me laugh. She gave "Golden Girls" its spark. I am very saddened to hear that she had advanced dementia. I can't imagine how hard it was for her friends and family to see her slowly lose her memory and that "spark" that she had. I work with Alzheimer's patients and know the sad reality all too well. We can all take comfort in knowing she is with Jesus. Estelle God bless you and your family. Happy 85th birthday. Rue, Bea, and Betty may God give you comfort and everlasting memories of "your ma" God bless all of you.

Your character although from Sicily, reminded me so much of my Grandma Anna who was from Poland but lived with us in her later years--a widow as well. Stubborn at times, yet so sweet and funny. Being a widow now myself I really relate to the reruns. You brought out all the wonderful things to love about our grandmothers--thank you so much. You will be missed. I know the real you was a wonderful person as well as in character.

I've been watching the Golden Girls since I was a teenager. I still watch it thanks to the lifetime channel. They air 6 episodes a day (m-f) and I do not miss a single one. Even though I've seen every episode at least a dozen times, I find myself laughing hysterically every time. When my daughter was born, the song I found myself singing to her was the theme song from the Golden Girls. She is now 5 and sings it to me. It's become our song. My daughter watches the Golden Girls with me in the morning during breakfast. Today with the marathon being on, she would rather watch it then her normal Disney or Nickelodeon channels. We love you Estelle Getty, though you're gone, you will never be forgotten. You will live in our hearts forever. R.I.P. our number 1 Golden Girl. xoxo

For over two decades Estelle has given us all the greatest gift--laughter. She perfected one of the most beloved characters to grace the small screen. She will be missed by her family, friends and a legion of fans. Fortunately reruns of The Golden Girls will help future generations get to know and love the immortal Sophia. God bless you Estelle we loved you so much and we will miss you. Thank you for the memories.

I didn't know until just a few minutes ago when I saw a remembering Estelle Getty ad on Lifetime, that Ms. Getty was gone. I love her and daily watch The Golden Girls everytime they're on Lifetime, and in fact, am watching the episode right now in which she sleeps with Caesar Romero. She was too funny and is such a pleasure to watch over and over. My grandmother wouldn't accept a phone call if she was called while "her" girls were on tv back in the 80's and early 90's. She would always say, "Let me call you back, "my" girls are on and I don't want to miss them this week. Estelle "Sophia" was the greatest and will be greatly missed. Hollywood has lost another treasure.

Does anyone remember the episode that she was training for a marathon, and they (the crowd) was chanting her name? Sophia, Sophia, Sophia... I really enjoy all the shows. I would get upset when Lifetime have a movie playing and it runs into the Golden Girls' time slot and I only get to see one episode. Her character was quick witted and spry. And one more thing, I loved it she told a story..."Picture it, Sicily 1922... Picture it Brooklyn, 1931..." and here's my favorite when she talked about fighting over a man, and she said, "that girl was me, the other you might know as Mama Celeste." Thanks for all the laughs!

When I learned of Eselle being stricken with Alzeimers Disease, I understood through medical basis that we would not have her here for long and that was sorrowful. Now that she has passed, I feel as though I have lost a family member. The 'Golden Girls' have been a part of my life for many years and I cherish every worn out episode as a child cherishes their most beloved stuffed animal. May God rejoice as we should that she is now in His presence, enjoying her wonderful person as we have here. She is a spirit I will always rejoice in for now and for eternity. May we all see her in the hereafter. Who knows, God may have already been enjoying episodes of the 'Golden Girls' the He has scripted. Love you, 'Sophia'. Enjoy the peace and know you have many who adore the woman God created ... YOU.

As she soars to the Heavens to be with Our maker,it will always be known that Estelle Getty was a true gift to us all. She was fun, fiesty and fabulous to watch. I pray for her family and friends (fans also) as we all will miss her. I still watch "The Golden Girls" on Lifetime and will most likely purchase any vidoes of the seriers if and when it becomes available. "Stop or my mom will shoot" was so funny, I will remember her always. May her family know that she was a great gift and will always be thought of fondly.

The medium of television is amazing. Some shows go on for years and never have that something special that stays with all who watched. Then there are those who become part of so many special family memories to all. The Golden Girls had it all, touched us all, made us all laugh. We were happy to stay home on Saturday night and watch four amazing "senior citizens". Some of us were young then, not thinking about how one day we would be one of them. Through the wonderful technological age we live in (and with my DVD collection of their wonderful show) not only I, but my family continue to watch and laugh and wil for many years to come. Laughter never goes out of style.

I have been watching the Golden Girls since the aired in 1987 and still watch every re-run that aires today. Sophia touched the hearts of many americans across the nation with yher bluntness, sarcasm, and remrks. Estelle is the walking example of erserverance, determination, and dedication. After 40 years, she is finally getting the spotlight she deserves. she will be greatly mourned and greatly missed. She will always be in my heart forever.
