I have watched the Golden Girls for over 20 years--ever since I was a child. I think I know every episode by heart and never get tired of them. Estelle was without a doubt the perfect choice to play the character of Sophia. I knew this day would come and although it is very sad to see an icon pass at least her family and friends know she is in a better place now. My favorite episode was when Blanche was giving out men advice to Rose and Sophia and she turned Sophia into a "65 year old drag queen" Thank you to all the Golden Girls for making me laugh all these years!!!

Condolences to the family of Estelle Getty. She made us laugh. She made us think. She made us remember-("Picture it. 1922. . ."). She reminded us we are getting older. Now she reminds us that we only live one life. It is soon over, but by the Grace of God we live again in eternity. We mourn not for Estelle, but for ourselves. We have been left behind. i have been watching scene it first aired in the 80s and still watch it today. no one could play Sophia like Estelle Getty as she was one of a kind, irreplaceable. i now watch reruns on life for ever and even when i feel down in the blues, i like to watch the golden girls with Estelle Getty because Sophia always made me laugh. now the lord took her home and she suffers no more as she is in gods loving hands resting in everlasting peace. thank Estelle for so many good years of laughter on playing Sophia on the golden girls. my deepest condolences goes out to her family and to Betty white, Bea arthur, and rue mcclanahan her cast mates. i hope life time dos a golden girl memorial speical with the three still living in Estelle's memory. I can't say that I have a lot memories from the show since I'm from another Country but the few episodes that I watch here in USA was a great pleasure. I watched the Golden Girls all the time and Sophia was my favrote. In fact my friends called me Sophia sometimes because I carry my purse everywhere, just like Sophia used to do. I used to watch Golden Gilrls with my Grandma. I would get a snack everyday at lunch and save it to bring home to Gram and we would sit and watch Golden Girls and just laugh. She didn't laugh at too many t.v. shows but Golden Girls would have her busting her gut. Thank you Sophia for so many wonderful memories of my Grandmas laughter...you were always her favorite Girl!!! The first time I saw the Golden Girls I thought it was the funniest show on tv. Estelle's role was the funniest on the show. I regularly watch the re-runs on lifetime for laughs that Estelle's character creates. She will be missed.

I never knew about The Golden Girls until I discovered the reruns which I have watched daily now for years. I was raising my kids in the 80's-90's and had no time for recreational TV. I love the show so much and Estelle was, for me, A HOOT. I don't think Lifetime has done enough to recognize Estelle's contribution to American sitcom. I work and so missed the 7/25 marathon. I would love to see a tribute involving the remaining "girls". I'll watch the website in hopes of notice. Laurie

The Golden Girls has been a significant part of my life. I remember it in the 80's when i was in high school but did not learn to appreciate the show until I started watching it as an adult years later. I never get bored watching an episode. The 4 girls have helped me laugh so many times when I needed it. Estelle was a true actress and will be missed. The one dream ive always had was to meet all 4 of the girls but that dream will now only be fantasy but that ok because I know Sophia is at peace with the angels. You will be missed. I loved watching her in Golden Girls. I used to write down all the funny stuff that she would say on the show to later read it to my older sister. She would have us laughing so hard. Its so sad to hear how long she lived with such a horrible illness and I'm glad she no longer has to suffer. After reading what a good person she was helping her very sick nephew it just made you love her more. We love you and know that you are now resting in peace. God bless you Estelle. I have watched golden girls over the years and loved it betty white and bea arthur were good but it was estelle getty that made it what it was. I will miss her, and send my condolences to her family and friends in their time of sorrow, but I am sure she is at peace and making all the angels laugh . I hope they find some comfort in how loved she was and that she is at peace now, and she is making all the angels in heaven laugh.. I am sure my parents were there to greet her on the other side. she was funny and she was one of a kind, and I hope she rests peacefully. I send my sincere condolences to her family and friends.

I have watched and enjoyed the golden girls since it started and it was one of my favorites. estelle getty helped make it what it was, and I am thankful for having had the privledge of seeing estelle getty work on tv and in movies for most of my life. I saw and met Estelle Getty 25 years ago when she was playing Harvey Fiersteins Mother in Torch Song Trilogy off Broadway, she was a loving warm person who was genuine and real.. That memory of her is so vivid in my mind, I was in awe of her as a person and lloved her as an actress. I feel like I have lost a friend. I will keep watching Golden Girls and I will never forget her. Thank you Ms. Getty, I think I speak for many when I say we love you and will miss you.

What she gave us I can't even put into words. I love all the women on The Golden Girls but have a special affection for Ms. Getty. My Grandmother and I watched the show every night. It was my evening ritual since my grandmother lived with us. She especially loved Estelle Getty's role in the show. Her character always made her laugh. Estelle Getty was a really funny woman...and she played an awesome part in the Golden Girls...which was a great show and meant an awful lot to me and a few of my friends. The show was real with real people...and it just made you laugh and cry and Estelle playing Sophia...she was just too funny...way too cute...and will be missed by many.

Golden Girls was and still is very special to me. I actually watch it almost everyday still. I remember growing up watching it with my Nana. That show was just so funny. There really isn't anything like it anymore. And as I grew older, I started watching it on my own. It was something me and my closest friends would always call each other and just laugh so hard at the great lines that 'Ma' would say. I was texting a friend about one of Ma's 'one liners' telling him how funny it was, as I sent it, I look up at the TV and there was Ma's picture with the Memorial dates. I just have to say that this lady was the funniest of all times. She certainly made her way into my home many days. I was looking at the news today when I found this out. Estelle Getty was a lovely lady and we will all miss her. For me, this is a sad day because a bg part of wisdom and light is gone but on the onther hand I'm smiling inside because she gone home, now she with our lord. Estelle has touched a lot of hearts and changed a lot as well, I'm one of those hearts she touched in her gift on the big screen.

from the first episode to the very last one, i watched the golden girls. I have watched every episode several times and I still laugh and enjoy every minute of it. I use the golden girls experiences in my every day life and have learned from them. Picure this....Sofia in heaven telling her jokes to God.

I never go a day without watching my golden girls Monday thru Friday four times a day after I get off work at 3 to 4 and at 12am to 1am I can rememeber the lines to most of the shows and say them along with the cast. I love all of the ladies but Sophia really made it a joy and most of the time she was saying the things we wanted to say to some of our friends and family members but didn't have the guts. I wll really and truely miss her she was really a great artist in her gift.

To me, Sophia was the Queen of that household. I really started to watch Golden Girls when it went into syndication, at the same time I went through my divorce. The show really made me laugh. It was Sophia who had the great lines, and balanced everybody. I will really miss her. A true great lady.

The Golden Girls gave me a feeling of meeting with four good friends in their living room everyday. The only thing I didn't do was get out the cheesecake. I watched this show without fail everyday after work like clockwork, to the point where my daughter had the theme song memorized! I can't tell you how sad I am Estelle passed. I feel like I have experienced a personal loss even though we really didn't know each other.Even my husband was sad for me, because he knew how much I loved the show. And of the four girls, Estelle was my favorite. I loved her direct, strong, yet good hearted wit. I really loved all of them, but her character I loved the most. I could see there was a really good person behind her role. My heart goes out to her family. I feel has if an important chapter in my life and comedy sitcoms has closed. God bless you. Estell was the real comedy for the show Golden Girls. She let me know getting old won't be so bad. Just laugh and enjoy it . She had a lot of lessons for us to learn and Loving was one along with Sex and most of all laughter . Let all of these hold a place in everyones heart as it does mine. Earlier in my life, I fought an ongoing battle with depression. I cannot begin to tell you what a wonderful show the Golden Girls has been, or how much it has meant to me, at least the words do not feel adequate. Watching the Golden Girls was so very healing for me during that time. I looked forward to it each week feeling like I just needed a "fix". It picked me up when I was so down! I am happy to say the depression was not permanent, just a condition secondary to life's wicked sense of humor at the time. I still watch the Golden Girls every chance I get and could never get tired of it! Estelle, thank you for the laughs you so generously gave all of us over the years. Though I am only 28 I have been a golden girls fan for many years. IN 2005 after the passing of my grandfather it helped bring solice to my grandmother and mother.
