I first met Tony at UNSW in the boxing club in 1960 and sparred and trained under his guidence for several years and went to several uni' games in his team. I even went to the Melbourne uni' games the year he met Berwyn. Our paths crossed again in London in 1966 when Tony was doing his PhD. I recall he lent me his camping gear which seemed to depreciate somewhat as a result of my use. We lost contact after that for about 10 years but eventually got together for a dinner at my place with our families and the other members of our 'old' boxing team.
After that I caught mant glimpses of Tony running along the Mona Vale road and I now recall he must have been in his 60's at that time and I also recall that I had to puff pretty hard just walking up a hill.
We all knew that Tony was the fittest person that we had ever met and I thouight he must be a 'man of iron' who would last forever and certainly longer then me. He did not smoke or drink and ate healthy food and was always ready to help others.......... and so it seems somewhat unfair that he was 'taken', just when he was in the retirement years. All of us look forward to slowing down and appreciating things, like the grandchildren and and perhaps some leisure travel.
Neverthe less Tony crammed more then one lifetime into his time on earth and all who met him learnt something from him.
