I say thank you to God, that I had a wonderful oportunity to know such a great master like Peter. I remember all things that Peter tought me in art. I always will carry on my best memories about Peter.
Peter was always a great friend and inspiration. His generosity of spirit, his humour and his encouragement have been of great influence on my life and work. Thank you Peter for being who you are, and for your love. I will always cherish the memory of you showing me your 'Bob the Builder' photo - an hysterical moment if ever there was one! Love you my friend, miss you heaps. Love you Joy and all the family. Nada.
Peter was gentleman and kindly man who I was very fortunate to have met. Without Peter’s patience, understanding and devotion I would never have learned how art is truly created and defined. It was with his enthusiastic teachings and help that I was motivated to continue painting and my memories of him will last forever. Every painting I have done since attending his classes and do in the future will reflect Peter’s dedication to the arts and the kind and friendly person he was.
My heart goes out to Joy and all Peter's family, Peter was and still is a great inspiration to me, his generosity and patience helped me open up to a lifelong desire to learn to express myself through art and I will continue to honour his passion, skill and humour along with his quizzical eye in each brushstroke I make as I continue along my heart path.
Fond memories remain of a good friend with a wonderful intelligent mind and interests in so many fields. Condolences to Peter's family and friends, especially his students who will miss a great teacher and mentor.
Peter was a wonderful and caring person who shared his knowledge of art with the residents at Ozcare (Aged Care Home in Port Douglas) on many occasions. He also read stories or poems to them in his special way. I attended an art class some years ago and enjoyed learning and sharing his immense knowledge. I will always remember Peter as a kind and caring man who gave so much of himself to others.
I would like to thank Peter for being such an inspiration and giving me the confidence in my abilities. Without his kind words and constant encouragement I doubt whether I would have continued and found the pleasure I am now able to enjoy through painting.
Saddened to hear Of Peters Passing, always encouraging and supportive to the budding artists under his care. Although a life has ended I cant help thinking about the many who have been given a life, through the careful guidance of Peters expertise.Condolences to Joy at this time.
I have come to believe that a great teacher is a great artist and that there are as few as there are any other great artists. Teaching might even be the greatest of the arts since the medium is the human mind and spirit. "John Steinbeck " Thanks for the memories, Petrax
When I joined DAB just this year, Peter made me feel so welcome and immediately part of the "DAB family". He was so helpful and encouraging and I feel he has been my friend for a long time. I will greatly miss him and my heart goes out to Joy and the family.
A friend dragged me along to DAB Mossman a couple of years ago. With a warm welcome I was greeted by Peter. He took me under his wings( and so many oyhers), made me look at painting from a different angle. He supported us, helped us along the way until the painting was finished. His knowledege about art was like a lexicon , you had a question- he had the answer. He was so proud about his students. When we had an exibition, sure ,he was with us , helped us setting it up, gave us hints and tips. He was glowing, full of praise(that made us so proud) towards us. Yes I can say I can consider myself lucky to have met Peter and trough my paintings there will always be my mentor Peter talking to me. You gave me hope and my passion back . Thank you Peter you will be always in my heart.
Peter was the inspiration and driving force behind, and at the front, of Douglas Arts Base in Mossman. An untold number of artists have Peter to thank for his encouragement, his gentle but firm guidance, his generosity with imparting knowledge and his constant support. I consider myself extremely lucky to have been one of those who experienced Peter's joy and passion at all things artistic, especially sculpture and painting.
