Paul and I met as members of the Australian College of Education, founded at Geelong Grammar School in 1959. At the second annual conference held at Adelaide University in May 1961 Paul and I presented a motion urging that the College pursues its activities at National level. From this motion the first comprehensive study of 'Teachers in Australian Schools'. I express my regret at the passing of a colleague who moved the newly established College to undertake the first of many national projects.
