STANLEY, Maura – third Anniversary died February 15th 2009. Also my dad Paddy, who died September 1st 1984 and my mum’s sister Kathleen who died 7th December 2010. My mother kept a garden, A garden of the heart, She planted all the good things, That gave my life its start. She turned me to the sunshine, and encouraged me to dream, Fostering and nurturing, The seeds of self-esteem. Her constant good example, Always taught me right from wrong, Markers for my pathway To last my whole life long. I am my mother’s garden, I am her legacy, And I hope that today she feels the love, Reflected back from me. Blowing kisses to heaven that’s all that we can do Every time we want to say “Nana, we love you”, So dear Lord, if flowers grow in heaven, then pick a bunch for us then place them in our nana’s arms and tell her that we love her and miss her every day especially her fun and laughter and very special ways. We love and we will always miss you; Caroline, Karl, David, Carl and Cian.

How time goes by so quickly as we all try to live a life without so many special people in our lives....Mam you are so missed and I just keep looking at my fantastic girls and wish you were here (with Dad who never got to see any of his beautiful grandchildren)…we laugh at the good times, but when no one is around the thoughts turn to how much you and dad are missed. I have wished so many times just to see your smile and hear your laughter, I miss your wise advise as I continue to walk a path through life….I have wished for so many years to have a game of golf with Dad and enjoy the passion he had for the game as I do. Mammy & Daddy you are both so missed…I bet Dad is sitting there giving Kathleen a hard time xxxxx love you and miss you all xxxx

this photograph was taken on a cruise boat going down the river Nile in Egypt on the 11th June 2007; Maura and Caroline went on a five day trip to Egypt Starting in Cairo and Giza to explore the three pyrmaids and the Sphinx. These wonders of the world were breathtaking. The lucky two went onto then onto Luxor via an overnight training trip to visit the Valley of the Kings, and the famous Tutankhamen; it was then onto Philae, an island sacred to teh goddes Isis, they also visited the Temple of Deir el Bahri. They had a two day cruise down the Valley of the Niall and the photos were taken abroad the cruise trip on a fun night, dressed in traditional egyptian attire!. Finally a coach trip delivered them to the red sea where they enoughed some rest and relaxation before getting red to get back to Paddy Land.

Shay told me the story of how his dad used to call his mum quennie as she was his queen. i thought it was so romantic and i hope they are now together and are happy. They were apart for so long and with shays recollection of his parents relationship they were so in love and idealised each other. When i saw the picture of the crown it reminded me of the story but i suppose mauras children can tell this story better than me. So i hope they can elaboarate more on this memory.

Susann was the sister pr the second daughter never born but she was sort of adopted by my mum as part of the immediate family, not privilaged with any special treatments, just the same as me, a daughter, loved, cherished and respected. So when this daughter arrived to spend some time in her house in dublin and decided she wanted to "paint the town red" maura was not too happy that she was out of her sight after 12 mid night. The slipper story is totally correct but Susann did not mention was that for all the messing that happed maura loved susann as much as she love her biological daughter caroline. She was part of the gang, an integral part of the pack. and when Sue was extremely ill in the 1990's it was Maura who insisted that we (caroline and maura) made the many trips accross the Irish sea to support Susann. Maura and Paddy just loved Susann more than she will ever ever know. xx

Not my first time sitting down here to write something of Maura. For everytime I sit to write something, I usually end up teary eyed and close this down..... til the next time. But my cousin/sister Caroline has asked me to write something so here we go. I want to make this light and funny because that is how I remember Maura. She sure was one funny lady with a great sense of humour. One night Caroline and myself had gone out, not sure where we had gone, could have been The Grove, remember that Caroline, "do you have fresh air in the North? No, they give it to us in little plastic bags" Anyway, coming home at 2 a.m when you were 17 in those days was a cardinal sin and you were going to get a hiding unless of course you had an ultra sneeky cousin, Susann Archbold! Or so we thought! We didn't think that Maura was the ultra sneeky mother/aunt. Up the stairs we went, stopping to take our shoes off on the way, they won't hear us this way I motioned to Caroline. "Almost there" I whispered to Caroline. "See I told you we could do it" Two more steps to go and out of nowhere this figure appeared with a slipper. "Oh S***" I screamed as Maura came out from the landing in her dressing gown with the "Slipper" in hand. I was given a good slap across my arse and pushed me into the bedroom (I'm now laughing at this memory..hahhaha) Caroline got a good slap too, I know this for sure as I turned around to check there was no special treatment going on..hahahhahahah. Both of us were thrown into the bedroom and told to get into bed quickly and she would deal with us in the morning. I have never moved so fast in my life, the training I got in the bedroom that night helped me with jogging in later years. Hahahha. We couldnt' stop laughing while lying in bed that night, giggling like two bold school girls. Next morning as Caroline went to catch the bus from across the road (7.30 a.m.) I waved her goodbye (what a thoughtful cousin) and snuggled down back to bed. The door flew open and there stood Paddy with a white shop coat for me. "Get your arse out of the bed, get dressed, you are working in the shop today" So my day was spent selling sweets to snotty nosed kids! Maura was lilke a mother to me, she was referred to from my own mother as being my second mum, I would phone her just to say hello, leave her little messages on Paddy's anniversary. She was always there when needed but never intruded. Her death was hard to believe. It came as a shock to everybody who knew her. Her infectious laugh made you laugh. Her legacy is her kids, all you have to do is look at them and know what a great job she did in life. What a lady!
