Marie was a delight to have as an Aunt. She was always upbeat and keen to be involved. She will be deeply missed. Greg Defina, Wendi Forbes, Rebecca Defina.
Marie was always warm, amusing and ready to be amused, and her heart was huge. It has been a privilege knowing her. Susan Williams
Nana Marie as she was known to many of the friends of John, Margaret and Michael has provided an inspirational and wonderful influence in my life for nearly 50 years. Marie departed this life when she was 94 years young, not 94 years old. Marie provided hope humour friendship kindness wisdom guidance and philosophy to many people from many walks of life and educational backgrounds. She lived a life where she was challenged financially and personally by having the responsibility to educate three children as a widow with minimal financial resources. She achieved that and at the same time looked after her own mother into her nineties. Marie always somehow managed to put another sausage in the stew and feed the hordes of friends of John Margaret and Michael who came to regard the homes at Gilles Street, Buranneer Avenue and later Craigend Street as an extension of their own homes. In recent years I have spent many a happy hour calling in to see Nana Marie en route between Sydney and Orange. I am sure that many will share my loss of not being able to spend time with this inspirational lady. Nana Marie went out with her boots on, her intellect and wonderful sense of humour fully intact. She has enriched my life and the lives of her family and many outside of her family. A wonderful life well led. I will treasure the memories of my friendship with Marie for the rest of my life. John Margaret and Michael were fortunate to have her with us for so long. The loss at this time is still deeply felt by many. May she rest in peace Christopher Murtough
