I have fond memories of John (aka Jack ,Jek ) from our student days at Sydney Uni studying to become mental surgeons. I remember John as having a fairly relaxed attitude about life in general aswell as an unconventional sense of humour. Certain events in the past come to mind while we were students which made many of us laugh at the time. I also seem to remember Jack driving a green Fiat X1/9 or is it just my distorted imagination - a weird combination. Back in second year (?) I remember his amusement after he watched me battle fast setting plaster while investing the P/- in pros prac. Jack asked me if my life "flashed in front of me" . I 'm starting to wonder if some one spiked the plaster. Jack was an above average student and clinician and I admired him for that. Although I'm not sure whether he was also in the group who entrusted me with soldering their 3-unit gold bridge in 4th year crown and bridge prac. Unfotunately I won't be able to bullshit about the highs and lows of the past with John now. " Every man has a flaming star over his shoulder and when he sees that flaming star he knows his time has come". John I hope the trip across the river Styx was a smooth one and that you enjoy eternity in the Elysian Fields.

One of the Year of ’77 crew. John, you will be sadly missed by many. My heart goes out to Lisa, Lachlan and Angelee at this time of loss. BTW: You have some time to organise the best High School Reunion on the top floor. I believe Malcolm Lambert’s hoping you have internet access for future communication. After just spending the past month in Nepal and trekking, I am quite happy if you just shout out a message from one of the Himalayan mountain tops with all the details. See you then with bells on!!! ‘This tool, our body, is given to us for only a short time; this life.’ Jo Shipp

John Murray, if you are out in the ether somewhere I hope you get internet access. I want you to know you are greatly missed by your school friends. You are a much loved and respected part of our lives. You always will be. Should have told you while you were still here on Earth, but you probably suspected as much. Many tears have run down many faces. As time goes on the tears will be replaced by happy memories of our shared adventures and of your wicked, dry sense of humour. We'll even laugh at your expense. I know you'd be disappointed if we didn't. Might catch up some day in the ether. In the mean time give the management heaps! Malcolm Lambert

I first met Jack when I started Dentistry at Sydney Uni in the late seventies. Jack quickly became one of my closest mates and we had many extraordinary times together. He provided me with my greatest inspiration to study and not faff about. We continually competed to see who could outdo each other at uni and we proudly demonstrated how state school deviants could beat the pants of our private school comrades in such a demanding environment, regardless of one's disgusting social deviances. We had many an experience travelling through SE Asia on our Uni breaks, most of which we would always deny ever happened... a particular night in Jogjakarta springs to mind. Jack was not only a great bloke, he was also an excellent dentist, in spite of the hell we created for ourselves at uni. I owe Jack a lot of credit (or blame) for what I laughingly refer to as my life as it has turned out. Guess I will have to cancel that pending legal action now. One of Jack's best strokes of luck was meeting and later marrying Lisa, who provided him with his greatest wish.. a loving family of his own which will ensure that the greatness of his genetic makeup will continue to enhance Australia. So farewell young Jek but our memory of you will never cease. BTW, didn't I lend you a stack of money in Nimbin that time? Guess I'll have to hunt you down in the next life Bill Saunderson

I can't believe he's gone. It was an honour to know this man. A school buddy, fellow adventurer and more recently a member of The Chill. We will say our final goodbyes on Monday and never forget him. Jon Dryden

I met John when I was 10 and had just started mid term in Year 5 at Peakhurst South Public school - having been at the local Catholic School previously. It wasn't an easy time - but John was always kind and caring. After he lost his own parents we became closer and we stayed friends till I left Peakhurst High School - often exchanging notes and competing in our school results. I did lose touch with him and other school friends after that - but I will always remember John as an intelligent and very thoughtful person and I am very saddened to hear of his passing and send my deepest sympathy to his family. He was a great person and will be fondly remembered.
