John and I played football for the same team in Melbourne/Croydon in the early
seventies. I returned back to the uk in 1977 and lost contact with John.
By chance an old friend of mine worked for the sims group in derby and gave me the sad news about John.
We had some great laughs and both coming from London had plenty of great
memories.

Rest in peace John.

John Crabb was a great man and an inspirational leader the likes of which are seldom seen in this modern world in which we live. He inspired a generation of Simsmetal guys on to greater heights than we may have ever been able to achieve without exposure to his power, strength and determination. Rest in Peace and thank you John.

14 years agoI first met John when he started with J & C Johnson Bros. in Preston, Vic. 1965. At his interview for the position of Sales Rep. he was really impressive with his knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. After he was employed he absolutely stunned me when he admitted that he didn't even know the difference between ferrous and non-ferrous until the night before his interview when he did a bit of 'hard slogging' so he would sound as though he knew what he was talking about. It was all up from there - and deservedly so. RIP John.
