I found this website by accident while making a Google search to find out if Harriet had a facebook profile. First I hoped this would be a tribute of some other Harriet Davidson, but then I saw the familiar names of Ian, Fergus and Edwina and I had to accept that THE Harriet Davidson I knew had passed away. I feel this situation so unfair and sad even though it was many years ago I knew her. I stayed with the Davidson family for five weeks in 1989. I was a kind of au pair looking after Fergus and Edwina. Ian and Harriet were very kind for me, they for instance voluntarily showed me places nearby. Since Ian was working I spent quite a lot of time with Harriet. I really liked Harriet and I remember her as a positive and happy woman who had found the way of life of her own. Some day I heard Harriet talk to the baby Edwina asking if she would like a little brother or sister. A large family was obviously one of her dreams and I was happy to find out that it had become true. I truly want to express my condolences to Ian and all the children. If anyone of you will some day travel to Helsinki, I would be happy to give you accomodation at my home. Satu

Our impression of Harriet was of a person with selfless generosity. We were humbled that she had time and energy to show us her alpacas a day after chemo and that she was so vigorous and sharp and totally informed at the top of her industry. It was an honour to have this half day in September 2009. I only found out today of Harriet's passing. A great loss to all who knew her and to those of us who didnt. Cath Brendon and Dominic Lukin

Lots of memories of Harriet when she came to live with us in Ireland - not sure how old she was then (early twenties?) but my sister and I were very young. We thought she was incredibly glamerous and great fun. A great person to follow out hunting and always out and about doing the horses or going to parties with my parents. When I later worked in Nowra she used to come to the polo club to see me and often fed me dinner not to mention delicious wine courtesy of Ian. My mother and I saw her in February when we were in Australia after for me about 20 years. It was so great to see her again. So full of energy and life. My thoughts are with Ian and the children who sadly we have not met. She will never be forgotton. Susie x

We will always remember the lady who we fondly termed 'Hurricane Harriet'. This name came about after a visit to her alpaca farm many years ago. It was raining but this did nothing to dampen Harriet's enthusiasm and we were summarily dressed in dry-as-a-bones, gumboots and hats from her garage and escorted around the entire property with Harriet excitedly pointing to various alpacas at a distance and explaining their lineage and attributes. Once we returned to the house, after about 3 house, we were then treated to several house of lucky dip fleece bags. Many bags gave forth a ribbon which Harriet had forgotten about and each fleece had a story attached. We learnt so much that day and thoroughly enjoyed her company and hospitality. At each show thereafter, Harriet never failed to recognise us and give a big smile and a friendly hello. I had the privilege of standing next to her during a class at the Easter Show and I shared the nickname we had given her and why - it got a nice chuckle. Our hearts go out to Ian and the family - our thoughts are with you. She was a truly unique lady, a joy to watch in the ring and she will be missed by the entire alpaca community.
