Unfortunately I never saw the great Garmini play but his deeds and achievements were very uplifting and inspirational for Sri Lankans growing up before we attained Test status. He has certainly been one of the trailblazers for Sri Lankan cricket and people like him helped us attain Test status in 1982. May the turf lie lightly on him and God grant his family the strength to cope with his loss. Lawrence Machado, journalist.
