A Poem for Lizzie
An Ode to a Friend
It makes me quite dizzy
To quite comprehend.
I’m so glad I met her
I just want her to know
I will always adore her
So, now on with the show!
I first met this legend
Down at the town hall,
Her charisma amazing,
Her kindness not small.
We saw many a flick
And so many gigs
We drank red wine down quick
And ate up like pigs.
From back in the heyday
We’ve been through a lot
Not a single birthday
She ever forgot.
She believed in our street press
And helped so much with our mag,
She abridged all my stress
Of typos and literary jet lag!
She corrected and proof read
Every single damn line.
Until the last issue was put to bed
She donated her talent, skills & time.
Lizzie loved the Wine Bank
They all knew her at the bar.
We drove ‘round in her ‘tank’
And she worked hard at the Star.
She has been larger than life to us
And just like Carrie Bradshaw
Her photo should be on the side of a NY bus
(but with Lizzie-esque fashion, for sure!)
Her great US loves are Andy & Lou
And New York was SO the place to be.
I’m sure if they knew her they’d love her, too
(they’d realise she was no wannabe).
Having artsy friends came in quite handy,
When she went to visit Pittsburgh-
She got to touch the wigs of Andy!
So many great stories we heard.
And seeing Bowie in the club with Lou
Gave me such a thrill to hear
While Laurie was doing what she loves to do,
The Spider from Mars was so near!
I will never forget you, Ms. Liz
The music, the red lips, the awesome tattoos.
You are a great friend, forever and always;
An inspiration, an artist and a muse.
So, much love from Me, Ash (BB) & Miles,
You’ve always been the Big Apple of my eye.
We say fare-thee-well with hugs & huge smiles.
‘Cos it’s just good night, not goodbye.
