How can we forget? Du'a died for love, she died in the XXI century but for her and for women like her it was the dark Middle Age. We won't ever forget Du'a, and I pray noone else ever forget she was one of us, only less luckier RIP Du'a

Today, like every day, I will continue to remember Dua Aswad, the brave 17 year old girl whose life was so tragically taken from her - for what? For falling in love with someone of her choice - not someone chosen for her. Dua was stoned to death by over 1000 cowards who were never punished, my hope is that a day does not go by that they do not hear her screams or see her blood on their hands. Rest in peace sweet Dua, know you are loved by millions, your murder has not gone unnoiticed and has not been forgotten. You have set an example for all of us around the world - to have the courage to follow your dreams. Much love - Athena

I am just one voice, but what is the use of a voice unspoken? One can join another and another until we are all one voice, speaking from one heart, for your memory Dua Khali Aswad, and for the future of women and men together.

No woman is an island, Entire of itself. Each is a piece of the continent, A part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less. As well as if a promontory were. As well as if a manner of thine own Or of thine friend's were. Each woman's death diminishes me, For I am involved in womenkind. Therefore, send not to know For whom the bell tolls, It tolls for thee. Original poem by John Doone

She was dragged out into the street An angry mob shouting words they didn’t understand Tearing her clothes off shamelessly Spitting in her face and beating her with brutal hands She was seventeen – beautiful and innocent A radiant smile that became trembling lips What was my crime, she cannot even ask What have I done to deserve this torment? A distant Lover, a young man from a different part of town Just an innocent pair of Lovers They pull her hair and call her a disgrace “Infidel!” “Slut!” “Whore!” Tears streaming down her face – I’m sorry, she whimpers Heavy rocks and stones slamming against her body Blood dripping, bones crushing, such fragile beings we are Why hurt so much beauty? You stand in the crowd Surrounded by a chaotic storm of violence Unable to hold back your tears Wanting to bring an end to this madness I know, me too... With each violent strike You watch her life bleed away Her broken fingers reaching for help, just someone to hold Just someone to tell her it’s going to be okay You’re haunted by her helpless eastern eyes Watching the brutality ensue One rock thrown at a time like some demonic game While police officers just stand as spectators Unyielding to her desperate and painful cries You want to charge through the crowd And take the rocks like bullets You want to bleed and lessen her pain You want to scream into the sky And punch the earth until your hand breaks I know, me too... Sister, what we would do to help you If we weren’t so afraid I’m standing here, bleeding from the inside Suffocating and blind from all this hatred Sister, I cannot live like this Or laugh or sing or dance or smile I cannot breathe like this Or talk or eat or walk or sleep Thinking of all the pain you endured Of all those years you missed Those precious days stolen from you In the early bloom of your being You want to believe in the Unseen Beauty Heaven’s Chariot charging through the fields Divine Light resurrecting her lifeless body And a warm hand healing her wounds Fear nothing, says a gentle voice For Beautiful Muhammad has come To lead you out of darkness and into Light To bring you out of sorrow and into rejoice Ali and Fatima wait at the Gate Come, Sister To the Eternal Sky To the Garden of Souls To the Love that belongs to you You want to believe this is how it ended I know, me too... ~ Jehanzeb

Such a young life taken away because of love, the most beautiful and precious thing in this world. Your life was ended by those monsters. Hatred is senseless and gets us no where but love is endless and can take use many places. I pray that your soul is at ease because God will take care of the rest.

May you attain peace with god. To those who killed you in the pretence of holiness, and for those who killed you in my god's name - will pay a dear price for their brutality. The Quran speaks of compassion there is no mention of sharia laws and tribal rituals. With your death more Muslims have opened their eyes. You did not die in vain.. Hilal

Dua - I think of you daily and I make every effort to spread the word of your murder and all the Dua's out there suffering at the hands of these ignorant people. You are free now sweet girl, free to run, dance and love - please know we will never forget you! Athena

Dua Aswad represents all the victims of this horrible crime known as honor killing - in remembering Dua you are remembering all the innocent victims murdered by an ignorant society - we must change this mindset - we must never look away - we must all help when we can and we must never ever forget what Dua Aswad died for - for freedom of choice, freedom of love and freedom of life! Bless you Dua - we will never forget!
