David was a favourite "son" of my mum Wendy. He was in her words "a gentleman". When my mum died 10 years ago he was one of a few who did not cast aspersions or make assumptions about me. Instead there was a gentle squeeze on the shoulder, words of encouragement and an offer to visit him in Sydney which I didn't get around to. I have often thought about him and was devastated to hear of his death. His family can be proud of the young man I knew - an absolute gentleman. Kim Saultry

David (known even to his pupils as Stookey) was my grade 6 teacher at Berwick Primary School in 1986. I have many fond memories of his unorthodox but exciting teaching methods ("science experiments" that involved the class hoisting him up to the ceiling with a skipping rope thrown through the exposed rafters) and his love of a good laugh and a prank. When we decorated his old ute with toothpaste at the end of the year, he didn't get mad; he told us that next time we should use shaving cream so as not to damage the paint :) I was very sorry to read of his passing and I send my condolences out to his family and friends.

David, my brother - so many memories, so much laughter Your candle burned out long before, your legend ever will. Goodbye my friend. x x Lou

David and I shared a real passion around horse racing and David had a keen interest and real love of the beautiful animals. Nothing brought more joy to his day than to see his horses racing around the track and "bring home the bacon". I loved sharing those precious times with David. May he rest in peace.
