Damien and I spent much of our teenage years together, in Northcote. We played tennis together, football, running, and were constant annoyances at the Northcote Tennis Club. We often wrote songs together which we sang to the only tune he could play on his guitar: The House of the Rising Sun. Damien was the best man at my wedding. We met again in later years and still shared a strong affinity. We both started Law School together, which was a big surprise as he had studied Maths and Science at Parade College. He went on with it and I drifted off into teaching. He had a very analytical mind and a dry sense of humour. We shared many wonderful hours together. I will miss him greatly. John McGrath
