I was flying back to Australia from South Africa with my 7month old baby (in 2005) and had an awful flight with bad timing when it came to baby's sleep time and dinner time (and I was very emotional having just left my family again). I was starving and getting quite flustered with my very active baby on my lap who wouldn't settle. Once everyone had finished eating, this lovely gentleman came over to me and offered to take my baby for a walk so I could eat my dinner. It was Dr James Lukabyo, High Commissioner of Uganda (he slipped his card in my hand as he was leaving the plane). I have told the story over and over again of his kind and much appreciated gesture - and the only person who took pity on a sad and flustered mum. I was going through my business card book and found his card and thought I should google him and write a belated thank you - but I've left it too late! May his beautiful soul rest in peace and thank you Dr James Lukabyo for being such a kind human being. x Georgina

I just wanted to express my sympathies to the Lukabyo family, especially to my old university friend, Nona. I strayed across the notice in the paper. LOts of love to you all.

We were young and enthusiatic aspiring teachers. We wanted to change the world. James guided us through our university years helping us appreciate the freedom we took for granted. it's more than 30 years since we were in his lectures, we can not remember WHAT he taught us, however, we can remember HOW he taught us................. Gently . Thank you James.

Sharon Markula (Director). Thanks Dr James for supporting the charity work of HUGs in the Northern Ugandan district of Kitgum. You believed in us even in our earliest, toughest days, and did us the honour of attending our gala launch as guest speaker. Your tender heart for those Ugandans who suffered at the hands of war, poverty and HIV will not be forgotten. Ibulanku will miss you, HUGs will miss you. My sympathy to Sheila, family and Sula. Love, HUGs x

I first met Christopher (then James) many years ago (early 1960s) when I was working at the Church Missionary Society and he was studying at UNE. We met up again when he, Sheila and the children moved to the Hills district. What a range of life experiences! from refugee student, to teacher, to academic, to diplomat, but above all as a loving husband and father. My thoughts are with Sheiia and the children.
