About

Antonio Garcia Mijares was born on June 13, 1934 in the small mining town of Santa Barbara, Parral, Chihuahua Mexico. He was born to Anastasia Garcia and Juan Manuel Lazcano. Soon after his birth, he was raised by his Aunt and Uncle Natalia and Jose Mijares. Our Father only went up to the 3rd grade as he thought that he could learn and earn much more out on his own exploring the world. As a young boy our Father did odd jobs wherever he could find them. He shined shoes, his father Jose was a Zapatero (shoemaker) in Juarez and he would do jobs for his father and he’d often sweep the shop to earn “unos cuantos centavos” (a few pennies) as my father would say. On one of his trips to El Paso, Texas he set eyes on a dark haired beauty - Paula Lucero. They courted for a while and in 1956 they married. Their union was blessed with eight children; Sylviano+, Antonio+, Sylvia Corral, Mario Mijares, Antonietta Martinez & Leticia Mijares+, Patricia Castro and Laura Mijares+ Upon immigrating to the United States, my Father worked as a welder but worked most of his years in the restaurant industry, working at the original Tiny Naylor's Restaurant and a driver for Lewis Catering & Commissary in Culver City. He also worked at LAX, Alhambra Wondries and at the Beverly Crest Hotel. Closer to his retirement years, my Dad was employed at The Nestle Corp. and lastly at the California Hospital Cafeteria in DTLA. As you see, our Dad was the ultimate hard worker. However, his passion was for automobiles and was a mechanic at heart. At home, Dad was maintenance and repairmen. His dedication to his family was at times more then his dedication to his health and suffered many health issues. His legacy will continue in his Grandchildren: Julia Ramirez, Ray E. Corral, Jr., Christina Mijares, Brittany, Sarah & Amanda Martinez, Pedro Guzman-Mijares, Juan Manuel and Paul Chavarin and in his Great Grandchildren: Arcadia, Philip+ & Adam+, Zachary, Elizabeth & Isabella Ramirez, Elaine & Ray III Corral and Leah Joy Amaya.
