Adrian and I met when studying for a Bachelor of Laws at Deakin University. Both mature age students and studying off-campus, we initially worked together in 2006 on a small group assignment and paired up for two of our 2006 Practical Legal Skills assessment tasks - mooting and mediation. The catalyst for this was living a relatively short drive from each other's home whih made it practical and relatively easy to meet or chat on the phone - the later which we did periodically. Increasingly we each studied at a different pace and after that first year there were few subjects we undertook at the same time. We did though continue to chat about the course and various issues. Many of these conversations took place with Adrian on the road while I was ensconsced in my home office. I remember Adrian as having an incredibly sharp intellect; being very opinionated on occasions; open to fully discuss, analyse and hopefully resolve a challenge or issue; a little brittle and fragile on a not so good day and, on a good day, thoughtful and endearing. I just wish he'd finished that 'bloody' law degree as he would have made a brilliant barrister - far better than me who actually did finish the 'marathon' at the end of last year! I'd rung Adrian a few times over the last 12 months, alas he did not return my calls. Farewell and don't leave any stone unturned in the next life!
