For some reason you are on my mind at this moment. I dearly miss you and the conversations we used to have. I want to ask your opinion on all sorts of stuff, I could always count on you for a great brainstorming session....I loved your zest for life and don't understand why your not in it anymore.....it's not the same without you. Very sad.

Oh, I'm very upset and saddened to hear about Rene's passing. I met her at OddzOn but kept in touch for several years, and just had assumed she was very very busy doing all the things she loved. What a beautiful, inspiring person she was to me and my kids. I loved that she was so excited about moving to Oregon and finding her place. I'm so sorry the world lost such a great human being, but we are a better people for having known her so briefly. Love you Rene. RIP. EZ

shocked and saddened at another great artist's passing. she seemed as though nothing would stand in the way of success. i was jealous of all her talent. her true genius was in her sculpture. sensitive, edgey, and utterly fantastic.i hope she knew that. jules

I have just read issue 27 of Gothic Beauty and found out the sad news of your passing. When I saw the picture of you on your bicycle with your pink pigtails you reminded me of a friend I used to know and miss everyday. It saddens me deeply that one as creative and beautiful as you has gone from the world but you will live on through your art , designs and the many people whose hearts you have touched. My heartfelt condolences to all your friends and family

Just found out about René's passing, so sad, I never met her but i used to be an active user in the boards at the lilshecreatures.com site, i loved it there. As a teenager growing up the art of René inspired me in so many ways, and although it may have been a distant way of knowing her, i really admired her and will do forever. Sara (bitterness barbie)

As I was using my last piece of my prized Darkly Collection stationary I decided to call you since we hadn't talked in a while. Instead of finding your phone # I found your obituary. You had too much energy and magic to be taken from the world. We need you. You were my biggest inspiration and an extraordinary person. Truly charmed. I'll miss you horribly. Love Always, Margaret

I am cleaning out my desk at work and come across an old article from the Cleveland Plain Dealer. It is old, dated 1995, paper is yellowing but as I unfold it a steady stream of vivid images begins to swim through my mind. Of many few stand out. Back then, many were intimidated, but the platinum blonde moved right toward me on the dimly lit dance floor of Nine of Clubs. Rene wasn’t intimidated by my dance style, rather she was prepared to challenge my style and keep up with any moves I would make. Her strong confidence, character and gentle smile were instantaneously woven into the fabric of my existence. That moment will never be forgotten. There she goes; you know it is Rene driving that unmistakable Mustang down Clifton Avenue. I beep the horn on my old SAAB, she waves hello and drives on………………… My deepest heartfelt sympathy to her family and friends

We share in the sorrow of Rene's family. We knew her has a child growing up, always happy and energetic. She showed her flair for art with ther Dad's tools at his business. We are so shocked and saddend.

••• It was a cool day in Oakland I stopped my motorcycle next to you on the side of the road. We talked for two hours, about everything, it was nice to see each other outside of work. Say hello to my mom and remember to visit in our dreamtime.

•••A day on the side of the road you and I talked for and hour and a half, it killed the battery on my motorcycle since I forgot to turn the key off. Then I was late for a wedding rehersal. You brought light and joy to a dark society in a way that made us all smile I'm sorry that I never made it to Portland to visit. Say hello to my mom and in time I too will see you.

rene was one of my best friends growing up. We lived three houses away and did everything together as teenagers!!!! I feel so blessed to have been a witness to her becoming a young artist. She was so much fun . We did alot of our "firsts" together ( getting drunk, high, crying over boys!!!) I have always admired her and think about her often. She will always remain in my heart . We have lost a very special person and my thoughts and prayers are with her family and cameron !!! RIP my dear friend see you on the other side.

I met Rene while working at an art supply store in Cleveland, Ohio. She would come in on an almost weekly basis for wire, jewelry findings and doll parts and I thought she was so cool with her short platinum blonde hair and combat boots. For Christmas in 1992, I received a pair of earrings in a gift exchange made from old fuses bound with wire. They were so amazing and I was surprised that I would get something so cool from someone who doesn't even really know my style. Rene spotted them on a day I wore them to work and informed me that she was the artist that made them. I had no idea and felt embarrassed that I hadn't figured it out- so she invited me to a jewelry show she was having at her loft in the west bank of the flats. We crossed paths again at a Crash Worship show at The Altar House. She asked me "What is someone like you doing at that shitty art supply store?" I had no idea- but it made me realize that I wanted to be a fabulous artist like her that traveled to LA to make sculptures for movie sets and had art shows in her downtown loft. I never saw her again. Thank you for the inspiration Rene- you will not be forgotten. Mallorie

René was such a loving, caring, creative and passionate person that the world lost some of it's spark when she left it. She always had the time for others and gave all of herself for her art, her business and her friends. No matter how busy she was she always had a cute little way about her, like she a had a little fun secret. She was always playful and even at 41 still would get carded. Not only because she looked under 20 but because she still had a young inquisitive playful attitude. Creating was her passion. Be it art or clothing or business and she succeeded in all she did. We had been together for 15 years and had always talked about being together forever. I never thought forever would come so soon. René I love you so much and will miss you always.

I did not personally know rene, although I was a frequent buyer and visitor of her co-owned shop, strangemonster. I first discovered her art when I was maybe 15 years of age, through her site of little she creatures. After I discovered her art website renecigler.com I fell in love with all of her art . Over the years she has always been a very big inspiration to me, not to mention my favorite shirts are all her design. How I feel about her art and designs has never changed, now that I'm 20 I still wear those shirts almost everyday. I really cannot believe she is gone! She was so young, and I always imagined myself maybe some day after college, obtaining an actual art piece by her hand. However, I feel that she lives on in every single one of her designs, and I sincerely hope that it will inspire many more people to come, just like it did for me, 5 years ago. My heart goes out to her family and of course cameron. Rest in peace rene. love and condolences from the netherlands, -Ariane

I loved listening to your opinions and ideas....I will miss that most about you and that laugh! I enjoyed the times we shared hanging out and comparing ideas about art and life while you lived in L.A. I was so sad when you moved. But I am lucky to have known you for the time I did. You taught me to be stronger and how to handle the business side of art as well. I admired your talent and spirit and will never forget you!!!!!!
