although i never had the opportunity to meet you, i feel that in itself is a great loss to me. your loving father brousse has brought you into my life now. we would have made great friends, with our common love for animals. it saddens me that the world has been deprived of all the love you both offered, to all livings things in it. although you can no longer be with us in the flesh, your spirits and the love you have in your hearts, will remain with all those who knew and loved you, and all those that know your story and also with me. stay free and ride the spirits of your horses in the sky.

I remember the days of horror, unfolding on the television, watching from up nth qlds way. The tears pouring down my face, and many others emotions too. I mourned the loss of so many people that i had never met before, it surely was a tragedy, unlike i have ever seen before. I just want the loved ones all left behind, and those now somewhere, more devine, to know that, although the days are passing by, the memory of that day will never blind. Please know that prays are with you all, for those that lost 'love' big or small. I pray that you find peace of mind, knowing that your loss is remembered for all of time. Peace n Love Hails xoxo

I live in Pheasant Creek and on the day of the fire I was weathering out the heat like most people with the curtains shut and watching TV. We knew when we moved here two and a half years ago that we were moving to a fire-prone area and we took it seriously. We bought a generator, a decent pump and installed a sprinkler system around the house. My husband spent many hours clearing undergrowth and removing overhanging branches. We went to the CFA meetings and joined the local fire-guard group. This was a series of meetings in neighbours houses led by a CFA volunteer who educated us about what to expect from a bushfire and how to prepare our properties. Because of the weather warnings during the week and the previous exceptionally hot weather that led up to the day, we had filled water barrels and placed them around the house along with mops and buckets, rakes, etc. and had the correct clothing ready. When the fire hit we went into complete panic for a few minutes then got ourselves under control, turned on the sprinklers and my husband connected the trailer to the car carrying water tanks and began hosing trees that caught on fire close to the house. Meanwhile my son and I were putting out embers that threatened to take hold close to the house. The sprinklers attached to the eaves of the house kept us cool and wet. The fire was all around us, in the trees and catching in a flash of a second everywhere but the house was OK thanks to the sprinklers and my wonderful brave husband and son. These things saved us along with a whole lot of pure luck. Venturing out to seehow everyone else had fared was the scary part, with trees and power lines hanging and falling over the roads and still burning, most of our neighbours houses completely flattened and still exploding. Hugs all round and screams of relief when we found our friends OK. They had run to another neighbours house and fought the fire together there. We lost sheds and loads of stuff and our precious cat who liked to sleep in the hay in the shed but we are all OK and I guess here to stay.

My name is Lynda, I have lived and worked in the Healesville community for the past 29yrs. I was evacuated in the early days of this devastating time., although I am one of the lucky ones to have returned home, this does not take away the pain in my heart for so many of you ,whom have lost loved ones, are missing loved ones and whom have lost properties. My thoughts and prayers are with all the people whom I would have had contact with over the last 18 years through working at a local Healesville superkmarket . Words can not describe what you all must be going through, but please know that although I may not know your name I feel your pain. I was one of the lucky ones to go to the Sound Relief Concert .....we are united and you will rebuild for we are Australian.

My name is Lynda, having lived and worked in the Healesville community for the past 28yrs I have made many acquaintances with people from all walks of life.. I was evacuated in the early days with my son as the drama unfolded but I'm fortunate enough to have returned home. My love and prayers go out to all those who have lost loved ones, are missing loved ones, whom have lost properties , to those communities so devastatingly affected I know at some stage through the years I would have had conversation with you or your loved ones through working at a local Healesville supermarket. I may not know your name but please know you are all in my prayers. I was one of the lucky ones to attend the sound relief concert and proud to be Australian.....we will rebuild..and we are united in your grief.

My husband and i live in Kinglake West, we had to evacuate our home when the sky went black, the air thick with smoke and embers and the trees next to our property were ablaze. We grabed our 3 dogs and fled to what we thought would be safety, but the fire was too quick and we became trapped with several other cars on a one way road that was about to explode into flames. We were parked outside a general store with trees alight around us and the heat burning our skin, we asked a passing CFA officer what the plan was and where we should go only to be told that there was no plan and it was every man for himself - that is when the real panic set in. With all the exits blocked, people were driving around in circles like rats in a cage, desperatly looking for somewhere safe to go - then a night in shining armour came out of nowhere, the local police officer Cameron Caine - 'Follow me' he shouted 'and don't stop till were safe '- a convoy of vehicles followed him through flaming trees and melting roads, with debri flying into windscreens and smoke creating a thick blanket that you could not see through - we were in Gods hands. After what seemed like an eternity, we came out of the smoke and into Kinglake West - we made a mad dash for the local CFA shed, where there were about a hundred other souls and their animals sheltering. For the next 12 hours we all became as one - fighting for survival - the 2 fire tankers that we had on hand and the dozen or so firefighters in that small area of sanctuary fought so hard all night to keep the encroaching flames away from us, knowing we were on our own, and knowing of the great tragedy that would occur if the fire was allowed to reach us. During that 12 hours we had many burned and injured adults and children making it to the shed, but with very little first aid equipment, all we could do was cover them in wet towels and try to calm them as they screamed in pain from the injuries and burns. The bravery, the caring and the support I saw that night will live with me for the rest of my life, I was proud to be in this situation with those wonderfull people from my community - everyone pulled together and no body panicked - In fact a sense of calm settled over us -something I can not explain - we felt protected by something bigger that us all. Deborah Teazis - A proud Kinglake resident.............

I have tried so many times to try and contact them but unfortunately with no success....I am left now with the reality that they may all have been lost in the fires. The pain is so unbearable and the thoughts un-imaginable - the only thing I can do is take comfort in the fact that their pain is no moore and they are at peace now. The fire fighters and volunteers are absolute angels who I will never forget. I am in England and feel now I am left with the funny and wonderful memories of the great times I had with my friends and their family - their spirit should never be forgotten
