    I am not a Mexican-American, nor do I speak more than a few words of Spanish, but I guess you don't have to be or do either one to appreciate the beauty, talent, and sophistication that Selena Quintanilla Perez brought to the music industry. I was 18 years old when she died, and I remember hearing her song "Dreaming of You" on the radio and thinking of a guy I had a huge crush on when I was in high school and dedicating that song to him. The day she died, I remember just sitting in the parking lot at my high school and then in my room not dreaming of my crush as her lyrics went, but instead crying for another talent gone much too soon. She was the epitomy of beauty, kindness, and talent and she broke barriers just as Michael Jackson and other powerful talents did before her. Most importantly, she ALWAYS appreciated her fans and never forgot that they were the reason she was famous. She never refused to sign an autograph (unlike some of the Hollywood stars today) and went out of her way to treat people with dignity (she bought a meal for a lonely woman at Olive Garden once b/c she felt bad that she was alone at dinner!). This kind of beauty and purity have been matched by few since her passing. I grew up a huge admirer of Princess Diana for many of the same reasons as I love Selena. I truly believe that if Selena lived longer than the tragic age of 23 that she was taken from us, she would have done charity work and even greater things with her talent and generosity. One can only wonder now what she would have done and had yet to achieve, since Yolanda Saldivar chose to act on evil impulses and take her life, then lie about it afterwards as though it were an accident. And the whole time she pretended to be Selena's friend and have her best interests at heart. What a disgustingly horrible woman - I hope she never gets out of the prison she created for herself (both literally and figuratively).
    I am 35 today and play her music, watch the movie that Jennifer Lopez starred in based on her life, and remember her fondly. I hope to someday make it to her gravesite to pay my respects to a beautiful, wonderful person that graced us for a brief, shining moment. May we always remember the example she set and play her music for years to come. And my dear Selena, I am "Dreaming of You tonight...'til tomorrow, and for all my life..."

    Selena entered my life when i was 11,(i am 18 now) and from the first time i saw her movie, i fell in love, not only with her, but her music, her strength, and her ability to follow her dreams no matter what stood in the way. Since then i have wanted to follow my dream of becoming a singer, and i feel in my heart that as long as i have selena in my heart and music in my soul that i can do it. Selena was more than a gift, she was my inspiration and she still is. She taught me to sing in spanish, and when things don't seem to be going right, i listen to any of her music and i immediately feel better. Thank you Selena! and to her family, i want to say that though she is gone, you can know that Selena will live in my heart forever, and in my childrens heart. I don't care what year it is my children will know who Selena was. Much love and thoughts
    -Love Angela M-W

    Wow I can't even tell you how old I was when I first seen that movie. I was pretty young seeing that I'm only 16 now. She died the year after I was born.. Every time I watch the movie I hurt so much, because I think how it would if she was still here, how I would go to all of her concerts and just be so addicted to her music. My name is Salina as well, just spelled different, and I sing in a choir ain't school. I love her music so much, I believe we have sung one of her songs before, I can't remember. i just know that I truly miss her and wish she was here, she died to young, and I feel so bad for her family still til this day, and she was going to have kids and all. I just wish should could have had that. And not have had someone take her life away because of jealously. Rest In peace. I miss you Selena. Much love and kisses

    Salina =]

    MY FAMILY SAW THE MOVIE WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT ON VIDEO. WE HAVE SEVEN GIRLS FROM THE AGES OF 7-15 AND THEY ALL ENJOYED IT. TO THIS DAY THE GIRLS ARE OLDER AND HAVE CHILDREN OF THEIR OWN, WE STILL WATCH THE MOVIE AND EVERYTIME IT JUST BRINGS US TO TEARS. SOMEONE SO YOUNG DYING TRAGICALLY IS ALWAYS IN OUT THOUGHTS.
    YOU WILL ALWAYS BE IN OUR HEARTS AND THOUGHTS.
