I used to live next door to Russell in Melbourne. He took me to the theatre a few times as he had season passes. He was a very lovely person and sometimes he would look after my daughter Bianca when I had to rush off in a hurry at a moments notice. He also helped me with Audition readings and monologues. I was very grateful for his help and I loved listening to his stories of travel and the adventures he had. When I moved away I remained good friends with him and would stay at his house in North Caulfield when I was auditioning for a part. He will be missed terribly and will always be remembered as an incredibly talented and generous soul.
It's hard to believe I will never again feel the silent touch of his gentle hands on my shoulders. And yet, when I close my eyes ...... Jan Crosthwaite
