I was looking for a holiday job at Donald Crone and Associates and was interviewed by Roger in the foyer of the beautiful converted Bank of NSW building on the corner of King and Sussex Street. The interview ran: Roger: "When can you start?" My stunned reply :"Tomorrow"; Roger: "Good don't be late". Roger was generous to me then and continued so for some years later offering me a start with Roger Thrum and Associates when he could really only afford one partner (Laurie) and a secretary (Kathy). My memories of Roger are of a generous, funny man - -who can forget Roger's "I like a fork and spoon" to the tune of "I like New York in June" or his description of the mech engineers "Normally Dribbly and Dung" (You work out to whom they refer!) Roger's drafting skills were superior; he could fully document a five bedroom house over a weekend, before CAD. He taught me so much...how to document whilst not telling the builder how to build. He also taught me how to "table talk" at 500. To Daphne and family all sympathy at this sad time...Roger had a marked and positive influence on many of us. Peter and Libby
