He was just great, up there with the best from the silver screen era. It is so sad, when they leave us and so many of them are gone now. He was such a wonderful actor. There is one more star in heaven now and may he rest forever in peace.

I had the worst crush on Richard Widmark as a 12 yr old girl. I never really got over it. Anyone who hasn't seen "The Long Ships" is in for a treat when they get the chance to watch it. Later in life I learned more about the man behind the actor. I had damned good taste in men (when I was twelve:)

For as long as I can remember Richard was a presence on the screen. Great man, a good life, gone but never forgotten. We owe him a debt.

I just saw him in a movie with Doris Day (did not catch the name) that the TCM host said did not do so well at the box office because he did not portray a tough guy. He was very likeable in the movie and proved that he had a wide range and could portray many different types of roles. So many of the great stars have passed on. Very few real stars these days.

all I read about this man only goes to confirm what I have always believed, to me was a truly great, underrated actor and a kind gentle person I never tire of watching him

i have been in love with you since i was 6 years old, you had a smile that would melt any cold heart. i loved you in the alamo, but my dad was a MARINE D.I., and when i saw you in "TAKE THE HIGH GROUND" , i was so taken that i told my dad i think i will go in the army and not the marines. you see i wanted to be a D.I. and teach the young soldiers going to viet nam how to stay alive.. you will be missed dearly , no actor ever did what you could do. if you were a bad guy , your made us believe that was the way you were.. same as being a good guy.. after you cross Rainbow Bridge, please keep the coffee hot. not sure when my job here on earth will be done. but when i cross that bridge i want to set down and talk to you and get to know you as a "real" friend and not just someone i watched on the big screen.. you will be missed. people now think they are great actors. they are just actor want a be's compared to men like you but, for now any pain and suffering is done. please rest and be at peace.

I thought he was a wonderful actor and enjoy his roles in Alvarez Kelly (1966) as a Confederate Colonel and as a Marine in Halls of Montazuma (1950).

Just Saw Alvarez Kelly a couple of hours ago and got to thinking that in 1960 if you were asked to list the greatest actors alive, you could be twenty or thirty minutes running off a list that would probably have Richard Widmark near the top. There aren't many greats left. Todays list would be significantly shorter...as a matter of fact, if asked to list great actor arriving on the scene after 1980...you might need list them using one hand.

Richard has always been one of my favorites. He had the looks and was a good actor. He could play good guy, bad guy and comedy. Boy, what a career and I am glad I knew through his movies.

I had a chance as a teenager to meet Richard when he was in Japan, making the movie Flight to Ashiya at our Tachikawa Air Force base. My boyfriends family was having Richard , Suzy Parker, and George Chirkas all to dinner. At the last moment they told my boyfriend to call me over, but I had taken my brother and sister to a movie at the base theater. I have always regreted going to the movies that night. He sent my boyfriends mother, 3 dozen of the most beautiful Yellow Roses. I had one them for many years. He was a wonderful actor and will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace

Richard Widmark was "JIM BOWIE" and the movie with him tied to that wagon made my hate the actors that tortured him. This mans acting brightened the screen....Excellent actor...my sympathy to his family

In the 60's my girlfriend, Elaine; and I shared our Hollywood dreams, she had high school in the am, and I in the afternoon. the one o'clock movie came on many times airing a Richard Widmark movie, Elaine would tease me by telling me she was going home to watch Richard Widmark and I had to go to school, I soooo wanted to stay home with her and watch one of the best movie idols. Just this past year I sent Mr. Widmark a letter telling him of my admiration for his acting. He never replied, I just hope he received my letter and gave a smile. Me and Elaine sure loved you. Your avid fan, Carol - Detroit,MI>

I remember the westerns with John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, and many others, all were great. They do not make them like that anymore. Great actor. Some things we will lose forever except our memories of great wholesome movies and the men and women that acted in them.

I remember him as this horrendous bigot, suffering an injury and needing him to be operated on by Sidney Portier, he had this maniacle laugh that literally made you think he was insane. I love him in "How the West Was Won", I Love Lucy and a plethora of Westerns and War Movies. He had a rich laugh, a gentleness that came through with an undiminishable strenght. Always a favorite and will remain an Oscar winner in my heart. God Bless his family and may he be welcomed richly into "Paradise"

My favorite story about Richard Widmark is when he signed on to John Wayne's epic "The Alamo" to play Jim Bowie. Duke took out a full page add in the Daily Variety that read "Welcome Aboard, Dick" The next day Widmark went up to him at the studio and said "The name is RICHARD"

I am sorry for the loss of Mr. Widmark who was such a marvelous actor and so believable in any role he played. He was a clean actor who didn't need foul language to make a point with his characters. I appreciate his choices that he presented to the American public and the movie enthusiasts. I wish I knew he was so close as I would have sent him cards to let him know he was appreciated by his audience. My prayers for his family..He will also be missed by those who appreciate good clean acting and good clean living. God bless, sweet dreams.

The first time I saw you in a movie I was gone, you of course were the baddie but those eyes told another story. By memory I was only eight or nine at the time and no adult could understand why I liked you so. I will miss you very much and think of you often. Without any movies what will I do. These young ones of today have never heard of you. It is their shame. At least I will still have memories fo you to keep to myself

I'm sorry that you're gone, because you were always a class act. I always liked your acting in ANY movie you were in. You were never boring; just entertaining. Your characters were believable, I enjoyed watching you, and it was always worth my time.(..like in the "Bedford Incident ") You're a genuine American artist. As Bob Hope would say, "thanks for the memories...", because they were GOOD ones.

Pick one: the war-stressed officer in "Halls of Montezuma", Tommy Udo of course, or any of the numerous films in which he took serious creative risks to make crucial social commentary while he was entertaining us. Like Jimmy Stewart and Paul Newman, a gentleman's gentleman, loyal husband, charter member of the WWII generation and a stand-up guy from start to finish--as far as I as a mere fan can see. Rest easy, Richard. Good job. And thanks.

See what I mean??! Sexy mouth.See left hand corner up turn small line.. Other side of his face gentle (R) ...left says ..well U can see..& the eyes..hot.! poise of the head...what a combination! Sorry if this seems inappropriate to say these things at this time but these R not comments in isolation...the man was a fine actor ...such a combination is rare, talent & sexiness...not exploited at all in his time...a pity...
