I have lots of good memoires of Richard as a child and an adult. He was like a big brother to me. As kids we were never allowed to go into Richard's room but as curious as Jenny and I were we would try to go into his room and would get caught by Richard everytime. He would chase us all over the house until we ran out of the house. Richard always had a big smile and I will always remember that about him. I am so sorry for the loss of your brother. Love, Linda Cedo

I only knew him as "Peppy". He was the first person in our channel to start an actual conversation with me instead of just playing together. He was kind, and thoughtful, and sweet. When we are online together, and I get depressed, he will always take time off from the game to spend a little time to talk to me and try to cheer me up. It is a sad day to learn about his passing. May his soul rest eternally. More than anything, you deserve to be free from all the pain and suffering. and in the Lord's arms you will find it.

Well he was only one guy, whom everybody knew n admired on trivia channel. And he knew about everyone too. Pretty versatile and vivacious personality, who with his presence always made this channel more than just a trivia channel. I may not know Peppy too well as most of other guys in this channel, but for sure his absence will always be felt by each and every trivian who saw his trivia skills and his ability to talk on almost every topic generously. May Lord bless his soul. Amen

I met Richard (a.k.a. Peppy in #trivia mirc undernet) a year ago..and he was one of the reasons why i always loved logging onto the channel.. Apart from being extremely intelligent (alot of people had a hard time trying to beat him in trivia), he was always the gentleman..(especially in victory, a trait which is kinda rare in this world)...He made me feel safe and warm...Only good friends can make you feel that way.. My only regret is not having met him in real..It would have been nice to shake the hand of such a handsome man..within and without..My deepest condolences to his family and friends..

I have been conversing with Richard for some time now. I volunteer for the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation as a patient liason/mentor helping people all over the world to deal with dystonia. I know that Richard's medical problems went far beyond anything I have ever seen and I know he suffered. In my discussions with Richard, he was always willing to share information with others suffering as he did hoping to help them when he was unable to get help himself. He was a kind and caring person, sensitive and intelligent. He fought against overwhelming problems. You have my deepest sympathy. I will pray for you and Richard. We will miss him. kindest regards, Gary

Over the past two years, I've chatted with Rich several times a week online and matched wits with him at the MIRC Undernet #Trivia channel. He was a great competitor (his nickname was Peppy) and a thoughtful man. His outgoing nature and friendliness made him many online friends. I'll miss our talks that ranged from justice issues within the medical and legal fields to the beauty in animals and the natural world. The world will be a less kind place for you having left it Rich. Peace be with you. Zip (AKA Zipnotist at #Trivia)

Dick and I were hired in the same group of new inspectors at NNSY's Code 135, along with Terry drew, Pat Leland and Steve Spindell. Dick and I were the same age and hit it off. Many a weekend we'd run the streets of Ghent. He was a good running mate. Although I had not seen him since our shipyard days, I'll never forget him.

Where do I start? Well for me my earliest memories of Rich began in my early childhood. I recall a man who was not only just a relative in my family, but someone who took a genuine interest in my life. Rich took the time out of his life to encourage, educate, teach, and guide me on life’s challenges. He always felt compelled to recommend and advise others (and myself) on how to approach a variety of life’s situations, so that it might result in the betterment of that person. I am lucky to be able to say that I have many memories of my uncle and the time that we spent together will be cherished. We spent time talking in person and on the phone (countless hours) we went camping and canoeing (in the mountains) we played chess together (too many games to count) we listened to music (all kinds) we watched bands and went to night clubs together (Night Hawks) we worked on repairing cars (mostly mine). Rich, meant lots of things to me and I could not possibly put into words all of the things he had done for me in my life. I do feel privileged and lucky to have been able to share time with him and feel like I’ve gained so much more from knowing him. Richard was a lot of things to me at different times in my life, but mostly he was my uncle, a mentor and a friend to me and he will be sorely missed. Richard may you rest in peace and know that you were loved by many.

I am a nurse with EVMS. I spent some time on the phone with Richard on the phone and in the office. He was a sweet amn who I hope is at peace now. He struggled with pain, and I hope the angels are with him now. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Uncle Richard, you will be missed. He was very passionate about his causes and only wanted the best for his family, friends, and pets :) He was a fun-loving uncle who enjoyed entertaining his nieces and nephews. My favorite was the donald duck voice!! He might not of realized it, but Uncle Richard had a knack of bringing the Ashlin family together even when they were drifting apart...He was a blessing to our family! May his beautiful soul rest in eternal peace with Grandpa. Love, Laura

The moment you passed my heart was broken into pieces. The largest piece was the one filled with all the love you showed for me as a child. I will never forget the trip to the mountains with you and Debbie, also, the subscription to Highlights magazine that you bought with what little money you had then, because you thought education was so important. I can remember you teaching me to tell time with a drawing and match sticks and challenging me with the Rubik’s Cube and Simon game. You provided my kids with a series of children’s encyclopaedias one of which David, who was named after you, has been reading nightly, about frogs. I see your love for nature in my son David along with your kind heart and loving smile. The memories of the trips to the zoo, Coleman's Nursery & The Children's Museum, with my children, will be tresured. Trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness and caring you respresented to the up most. It breaks my heart know such a wonderful brother was taken from me by a terrible illness. Mom was your comfort on earth and now it is Dad and Heaven. Knowing that helps me get threw this time and forever. Love, Your Heart Broken Baby Sister, Mary

I will always remember my first hiking trip with Rich, Joe and dad. It was a sereal experience that I will never forget. I enjoyed being around Rich. He was very knowledgable of many things and was always willing to share it with anyone who would listen or asked. He will be missed, we will keep him close to our hearts and remembered with warm thoughts.

I grew up as an only child. I really appreciate the time you spent with me. You taught me the appreciation for the love of nature. Mountains, streams, valleys, you understood things many people don't appreciate. I appreciate all the moments I spent with you. I have blood related relatives, but I don't have any that have had as much influence in my life as you did. You were to me more than an uncle than my own uncles could be. I love you and will miss you. Tony Bennett

I didn't get the chance to get to know Uncle Rich very well, due to moving away from the area. However, I do have one memory that comes to mind. One night Joe, Uncle Rich and I were playing " You Dont Know Jack" which is a trivia game, we laughed and had fun and needless to say He Won! I think he loved anything that was a challenge. He was so smart and kept you on your toes all the time. He was a mentor to my husband and his newphew, Joe. From what I understand, helping people was a big part of who he was. My heart goes out to all his family that he left behind. I am thinking about you all and keeping you in my prayers. Uncle Rich, may you rest in peace with the angels.

When I think of my brother, Richard, the first thing that comes to my mind is " Do the Right Thing" Richard had a way of doing the right thing and making sure others did as well. I also think of Richard's kind heart. He was always there to lend a helping hand when someone was in need. He took in a little boy in his neighborhood named Anthony, he loved that boy like he loved his own family. My borther was very intellegent, much more than his 5 siblings. He was choosen out of many people to go to Guam while he worked for the Government. Richard was pround of his dual citizenship with the US and UK. Richard had so many good qualities, intergerity, honesty, caring and good hearted. He truly was a good soul. I have fond memories of Richard, he always encouraged me to do my best. Richard had been mentally ill for so many years that I had forgotten what a great brother he was to me. I will miss him and think about him everyday. No one could have a better brother than my brother, Richard. In the arms of the angels may Richard find some comfort there. We will meet again one day. Love you and miss you forever. Sydney

I did not know Richard very long but I know he was very special to my new extended family, his mom, brother, and sisters as well as their families. I also believe that God has reserved a place for all of his special children and that Richard is enjoying a much deserved peace. My prayers are always with you all but especially during this time of sorrow Love, J. Elvin

Richard and I were coworkers and neighbors when I lived in Portsmouth, VA. When I moved to Guam, I was surprised to see Richard come a year later. No matter his struggles, he was sensitive to others and cherished their friendships. I had become accostomed to hearing from RIchard via email and random phone calls over the years, I will miss him.

My brother Richard meant the world to me. He was seven years older than I and was a great mentor to me. He had a brilliant mind and a heart of gold and in any situation, Richard was always there. Our problem solver of the family helped us in all aspects of life. As a child, I remember playing games with him, and he was so competitive that he made me work hard to try to beat him. Rich had a motorcycle at one time, and took me for a ride on it down Granby Street. We had such a great time riding over the Granby Street bridge. What a thrill it was! I will always remember your beautiful smile and your kind caring ways. Rich, my heart is broken but your love will forever be there. I feel that you are with God now and you are at peace. Rich, you are my true "Hero". Love & hugs, Maggie

Richard, my brother-in-law, had a very analytical mind, but yet had a very funny sense of humor. I remember the time we hiked Old Rag Mountain. Everybody was hot, thirsty and tired but he kept us going by telling us funny jokes about life in general. When we reached the top, he showed us what true beauty was and how we should take the time to enjoy what is in front of us. He had a knack to solve the most sophisticated problem in the world, but at the same time, he had a gentle and caring way about him and that's the Richard that I will always remember. Richard, it's been an honor to have known you and I will see you on top of the mountain again. Will miss you, Rome

Rich and I were like twins, one year and two days apart in age. While growing up, we were very close, like a team. When we grew up, I always knew that I can turn to him for love, support and advise. He would always be there for me and my kids. Richard was a man of true honor, dignity and courage. He was always honest, trustworthy and a hard working individual. He was well liked by his co-workers and we were proud of all his achievements at NNSY. My brother had a kind heart and took pleasure in helping his parents, children and animals. He was also very intelligent and almost knew the answer to any question, and if he didn't, he would find out the answer. He guided and informed his family and friends in many aspects of life with his knowledge. Rich will be truly missed by all who knew him. Richard will always have a special place in my heart. Thanks for the good times and may God bless you always and keep you in his arms. Love you, Jenny XXX
