The first time I met Garry was in 1963 at the London Musical Club in Holland Park, London. He was returning from an Antartic expedition and had decided to stop off in London to spend time with his younger brother, Desmond. I had recently arrived from Africa as a music student and was sitting in the basement dining room quite late at night with student friends, when the dining room door was very purposefully thrown open and in swayed Garry & Desmond. They had definitely been sampling the delights of a local bar and tried to convince me and everybody else that they were two members of the Beatles, a picture of whom was displayed on the front cover of the Radio Times that just happened to be lying on the dining room table! Suffice to say nobody was convinced!! A fond memory. Both Alan & myself were saddened to hear the news of Garry but Diana, you are very much in our thoughts and we send love; remembering our all too brief visit to your lovely home in Ballarat where it was good to spend time with you both. Adrienne & Alan xx

Garry, you will be deeply missed by the many people who were influenced with your music, your food, wine and weather talk. You changed our lives by showing us how to enjoy simple but important things. Thank you to Diana who spent many years supporting Garry during difficult times. We all owe you much love Diana. Shaped by the ice and wind in Antarctica Garry lived life well. Goodbye Father and Grandfather. Simon and Grace.
