Iconoclasts come and go, but not one will be missed as heartfelt as Mr. Newman. His gifts he so generously shared with audiences on an international level are forever preserved on film. But what about the true spirit of the man? Well, from where I sit, you can see it in the faces and the eyes of the children who flourish at his "Hole in Wall Camps". Benevolence was his spirit? One aspect, yes. Certainly charity, but what I believe to be more the spirit of living life to it's fullest and in that living, enabling one to give back to those whose circumstances are less than fortunate represents the true "spirit" of the man. So, when Peter at the Pearly Gates greeted Paul Newman, surely he only stated, "Job well done, my son, job well done!"
