Rest in Peace Norma. I have such great memories of Norma, the lavish duplicate bridge sessions at Selwyn Court & the wonderful bridge congresses at the ESU. She & Jim worked so hard to present a fantastic atmosphere. I will never forget the food she served, particularly the sandwiches! It was thanks to Norma, that I learned to play bridge. She suggested I come to the ESU and learn the game. Thus began a 15 year addiction. Norma’s bidding skills were exceptional and while sometimes she scared the hell out of me when she was running the sessions, on a social and personal level she was terrific. As fellow “ex sisters in law” we kept in contact until recently and she remained a welcome guest within my own family. She was kind, generous, cheeky and made me laugh. She leaves behind a great bridge legacy.

Jim Borin taught me Bridge basics but it was playing against Norma who I found fearsome that challenged me most! those smoke filled small rooms at the ESU Toorak Road South Yarra were an experience...... particularly for a non smoker......how we just put up! I used to think (still do) that Norma was amazing and particularly so when playing with the minute and ever polite Peggy Glasser, a tremendous partnership. I had a 20 year break in playing bridge with career and children commitments, (Few know that several of us who are in the IT industry worked for the same English Computer Company that Jim worked for and transfered with to Oz - ICL). Norma was forthright and always immaculately dressed, I was very saddened to hear and read of her passing. May she be happily seated "north" in the bridge room in heaven playing with my parents Dennis and Irene. God Bless Norma Anthea Gedge

The ESU was a great club in the 80's and Norma was a big part of the reasons why. Good player and a generous opponent.

I first met Norma at her bridge club in 1982. She was a wonderful friend, teacher and sometimes even my bridge partner. I will miss her very much. However, the book she wrote, the lessons she gave, the generosity and humor she exhibited and the friendship she always shared will always be with me. I am sure I will never play a game of bridge without remembering so many of her bridge tips and insights. Rest in peace Norma and thanks so much for being part of my life.

I have many happy memories of Norma. I was very often away with Jim and Norma, as they played their world class bridge in the USA ,Canada , Manila, New Orleans and many states in Australia. She was a good friend for years and we spent many hours yacking about bridge, shopping and food. R. I .P. (Peg)
