I am extremely sad to hear of the passing of Neville Petersen, father of my best friend, Michael. My memories of him are mostly associated with a shared love of the Canterbury Bulldogs and his deep political convictions. I remember watching our beloved Dogs at Belmore with Neville and Michael, or at the Sydney Football Stadium, or on TV at his place or at Michael's, and I was always struck by how conversations could swing so easily from on field action to national and international politics and current news and views. I enjoyed those moments very much and it taught me so much about Neville's multi-dimensional character, his wisdom, decency and compassion and, underneath it all, his wry sense of humour. I hadn't seen Neville in many years but had been kept up to date with his life by Michael. I will miss him very much and pass on my deepest condolences to his wife, Helen, Michael, Quingxin, Jack and also to Maryann. I dearly hope that he rests in peace.
