N'Doumbe avait un grand coeur, il m'a aussi encouragee dans la musique et meme aide dans son home studio en Hollande pour faire rentrer mes chansons dans l'ordi. La ou j'habite a present... c'est N'Doumbe qui sans hesiter -alors qu'il n'avait pratiquement pas dormi la veille, m'a aide a demenager et a amenager 12 heures de dur boulot (j'ai une grande famille...) d'affilee! Toujours avec le sourire et cette comprehension pour celui ou celle qui se trouve dans une situation pas facile. Cette gentillesse qui vous mettais a l'aise. Il m'avait aussi appris sa fameuse sauce piment (ds le vinaigre) pour les fameuses pates... N'Doumbe me disait parfois que je lui faisais penser a sa soeur. Je souhaite bien du courage a Evelyne et aux enfants, ainsi qu'a tout le reste de sa famille. Lilly xxx

We two used to sit and listen to music with such a joy for houres and inspiring each others to exctasy ! by the time we builded up our language , a language of world . he used to call me young brother and always complimenting me about my personality and tallent , very a few poeple did that to me ! we will be in touch for ever and sending blessings to each others and continuing the language we have created , Peace my Brother. As a testiment to the power of N'Doumbe's spirit, I know that he lives on, working his magic from other realms. He may not be present in our lives in the day to day, but he is undoubtedly turning knobs from the other side! I only got to spend a couple of weeks with him many years ago, but was always moved by his positive energy. I was just thinking about him the other day for some reason and a couple of days later, I get this email to write something in memory of N'Doumbe. That is proof enough that there is magic afoot! I played percussion with N'Doumbe in Azikmen for years and I have to say he is the best player I have had the honor to play with. Always a big smile on his face and so so so groovy! Towards the end of our tours the Azikmen rhythm section( the 3 D's: Djengue, Diabira and Diez) was smokin' !!!! N'Doumbe and your joy, you are in our harts. Fernando Diez

It's funny because I've been thinking about my cousin a lot in the last couple days.And today,I woke up with his Sango melodies in my mind;right after that,I checked my phone and found this e-mail about sharing our memories about him and it comforted me a lot! I remember when he came to Japan and we did an unexpected jam session that just blew the people away.It was about 10 years ago.He just got on someone elses bass and played for 10 minutes leaving hundreds of people in awe.The band didn't know what hit them and couldn't really play right after he left the stage.I'm always so proud of my dear cousin when I think of magical moments like this one. We all know he had the ability to shine on stage and also bring us so much positive energy among us,even off-stage.And one of my favorite things that he always said which came from our grandfather was“help yourself and the skies will help you”.Sounds like a quote from the bible but to me it made more sense coming from him than from a book.

What I see whenever I close my eyes and think of N'doumbe is his beautiful, sincere and incredible smile! When he smiled at you, you felt a warmth and generosity that filled you with joy, made you feel so welcome. You knew he was truly happy to see you and to be with you. I felt that way from the first time I met him 21 years ago at La Chapelle des Lombards in Paris. Azikmen was playing and I came to see Fernando and N'doumbe made me feel like part of the Azikmen family from the first moment. I loved watching him on stage. Pure joy emmanated from him when he played. And offstage, he was gentle and generous and pure. N'doumbe, I know you continue on your journey.
