I turn 65 this year, the voice, the style and this wonderful woman will be in my heart as it has for so many years. That Pata Pata is used on tv commercials should be an honor. A truly unique person, I shall miss her every day.

I was just a child when I first hear the songs of Mama Miriam Makeba, my late grand father was dancing saying this is what make South Africa so special songs like this they will make u think way back. When I hear those songs it remind me of my late grand father. I will always remember Mama Africa she will always stay in my heart for ever. May her soul rest in peace HAMBA KAHLE MAMA.

I was just a little girl when I was introduced to Miriam Makeba's music by my mother. My brother, sister and I were very little but her music always got us up and dancing to the delight of our wonderful mother. I feel such a loss today but I also feel comforted knowing that perhaps Ms. Makeba will meet my sweet mother in heaven and maybe they will sing and dance together. My deepest, heart felt condolences to the family.

One of the wonderful artists that I grew up with at home listening to was Miriam Makeba - I had the pleasure of going to school with her daughter Bongi (Music And Art) - As I grew up and became a special education teacher in New York I introduced my students to the wonderful voice and music of Miriam Makeba - Miriam - you have been a woman to look up to and aspire to - We will all miss you so very much - You spirit and music lives on in our hearts

We are so sad to hear the news. Pata Pata is still one of our favorite albums. We have great memories of a concert with Miriam and Hugh in Minneapolis some 25 years ago. Unique voice, enlivening music, uplifting message.

I was raised in a household in Soweto that adored Miriam Makeba and her music. So she became my favourite musician of all time. I have recently collected her old music from her exile days on Amazon.uk, and will cherish her voice and messages carried in her music for as long as I live. To her grand-children and greatgrand-children, my heart goes out to you in your moment of great loss. You will gain strength knowing that "Mazi's" passing is felt the world over, and that all of us who love her share your grief.

We love you Miriam Makeba. We will miss your beautiful smile. You was one of the original voices of Africa. Your music inspired a race of people. Rest in Peace

I remember as a child my mother brought an album home with the most beautiful woman on its cover. I listened to this album, which included Pata Pata, over and over again , and thinking this could someday be me. In the sixtees true blackness was shyed away from and she exuded the proud true beauty from the Mother Land. Her voice mesmorizing like nothing I ever heard. She evoked emotion and no one could sit still while listening to her vocal rhythms. I never had the opportunity to see Ms. Miriam Makeba in person but she remains a part of where I come from in my soul. Ella, Sara, Billie, Carmen and the many others who have gone on before, make a way your sister is coming home.

Your legacy will live on through the girls at the Makeba Centre whose lives you've changed forever.

I bought my first Miriam Makeba album when I was around 16. I am now 63, and I still love to listen to this wonderful woman sing. She was a great gift to this world, she is the Queen of her music. And I am thankful to be one of her many fans. Rest in peace Miriam knowing the world loves you.

I cried aloud when I heard of here death. I stoll have tears in my eyes. First heard her voice in about 1959. Was introduced to it by a physisist. She was the first female vocalist I bought a record of. Makes me wish I had known Ima Sumac.

Miriam Makeba sings her most famous song Pata Pata during a performance in the VARA TV-studios in Holland, 1979. Joining her on stage towards the end of the song is her granddaughter Zenzi. Zenzi's mother (the late Bongi Makeba) is one of the backing vocalists (in the blue dress).

The only drawback was at the same moment in the same facility Lena Horne was also being fetedp-what a shame these two icons could not have been presented at different times so that one could have participated in both! What a sad day for Africa. Miriam you were more than just an artist you were a mother to all of us. Through your music you counselled us and taught us to remember what is important in life. Your memory will always live on.
