About 15 years ago, the Lions Club of Crestwood was fortunate enough to come into contact with a young lady by the name of Michelle. She had a brain tumor operation and the result of this left her wheel chair bound. Crestwood Lions Club adopted Michelle as our own, or rather, Michelle adopted us. Annually at the Christmas Carols, with all of the children mobbing Santa, we would lift her up to sit with Santa in the sleigh and she would ride with him to the exit gate. With Crestwood Lions Club members selling Lions Christmas Cakes from the Sleigh around our local streets, Michelle would always be out the front of her home waving to Santa, except for one occasion when she was sick, so Santa climbed down from his sleigh and went inside to her bedside to wish her a Merry Christmas. Over the years, Crestwood Lions have assisted her with necessary equipment to help improve her quality of life. Items such as Special mattresses, wheel chair with attachments, lifting frame and various ancilliary items as required. As years went on, her Mum and Dad found it difficult to transport her around as they were not getting any younger. It looked like Michelle might need to be moved to a home for special care, thus breaking up the family unit. This did not appeal to Crestwood Lions who, with the assistance of the Baulkham Hills Lions, Australian Lions Foundation and Interaction Disability Services, managed to provide Michelle with a new motorised wheel chair which they could operate and also modified their vehicle to accommodate it. At the same time as the chair was presented the chair, they conferred on Michelle, Honarary Lion and presented her with her badge which she really appreciated and treasured.
