Moss worked for many years wtih my dad, Frank Wishart at the State Superannuation Board in Sydney. I always remember dad coming home after work on St Patrick's Day and telling us how (yet again) he had to cover for Moss in the office as he had gone down to the local Irish pub to celebrate the great day! The story was always told with a wry smile and we always imagined Moss down at the pub singing Danny Boy and bringing down the house. I loved to hear him sing Danny Boy. Then one time when I must have been in my early twenties, I was sitting on Freshwater beach with friends (mostly male) and looked up to see Moss striding towards me with one of his young children in his arms. He proceeded to embarrass me totally by asking why I was sitting up here with all these men while he was left minding the children!!!!! Moss, Stella and their family were sitting further down the beach with my parents and all were entertained by the scene being played out before everyone of the beach - I don't know how I managed to forgive him really! He and dad were the best of mates and when dad was about to turn 78, I organised a birthday party for him at our then home in Engadine. My sister and her famnily were there as well as dad's oldest friend from school, Cliff Parker, and his wife, Joan. The big surprise though, was when we ushered Moss & Stella into the party - I could not have given dad a better gift! It brings tears to my eyes now to remember that afternoon. That may have been the last time dad and Moss were together as dad died just before his 81st birthday. They will no doubt be together in heaven now and that eases some of the sadness for me. I don't know how dad will cover for you in the "office" next St Patrick's Day Moss! You have brought great joy to all those blessed to have know you and you will be sorely missed.
