I first met Mike when visiting The Bounty from aboard The Amorina mid South Atlantic !! We then met up along with other voyagers in Cape Town and Mauritius; even writing this brings back forgotten memories - sharing a house with others in Mauritius, a drink and party or two or three; dinner in Cape Town. Mike offered me hospitality in his home in Sydney both at the beginning and end of my first backpacking tour of Oz.. It was a real shock to find this site. Though we'd lost touch I'd hoped to visit Oz again and know he would have been as welcoming and friendly as before. I hope the solar winds between the stars are blowing fair for you Mike. Mike was the first person to order a guitar from me. In 1976 I returned from America with a guitar I had made at Charles Fox's school of guitar making in Vermont. I. took it to Guitar City in Sydney where Mike was the proprietor. To my memory this was the first time I met Mike and it was also the first time I met Jim Williams who was working for Mike selling guitars in the shop. Mike's enthusiasm and encouragement was evidenced by him immediately ordering a guitar from me, a spontaneous and generous action which quite surprised me. I would also describe Mike's action as innovative as, at his instigation, the guitar, while a full acoustic, featured a cutaway. This feature, which is commonplace now, was almost never seen on a regular acoustic guitar in the 1970s. Mike was also the first person to expose me to the music of Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits when he put Sultans Of Swing on the turntable. Thanks Mike! I hope the sailing is smooth for you Robin Moyes
