Maureen, Moorsie, Mrs A, Mum, Grandma… No matter which name you knew her by she was a very special lady.. I first came into the Family in 1989, Grandma was a very adventurous and well travelled lady… In her early years Grandma, Clare and Don were our Very own Leyland Brothers They travel around Australia in a Kombi Van seeing the sights and all the Delights our great country had to offer… She would tell you “We did it Before they did” the Layland Brothers…. Only difference is we didn’t film it. Some how I don’t think “Don and the Gallagher sisters” would have had the same ring to it! Over the years Grandma and Clare travelled far and wide.. One year there Dedication to the Church took them on a Pilgrimage to Yugoslavia Mitchagorie to see our Lady of Fatima… where this little trip almost ended in disaster… Yugoslavia Gone to War!! Well at home we should have always know she would be fine and that her Angels were looking out for them… Clare and Maureen made it home on the last flight out of Yugoslavia… Well as you can imagine… Grandma said that’s it no more trips… Not leaving Australia Again… Well within a few months Granny was of to the UK….. the next one of many trips she was never taking again… Grandma truly lived life to it’s fullest she was always out and about helping with church, in more ways than u can imagine Just one of them was making habits for the Dominican nuns…. which I can recall one day when Clare couldn’t come over to help finish the habit…. So there was John standing on a small stool while Grandma took them hem up on Sister Mary Pauleens Habbit… Well that was truly a sight to see.. Then there was the night a few years ago Justin Rang me and said mum there is a bit of a problem….. Granny wants me to make Father Walsh a cup of Tea, but he’s not here yet… No Justin you do have a problem because Father Walsh has been dead for over 10years, just make the cup of tea for him… but what ever you do ask granny where he is cause you don’t wanna go sitting on Father Walsh! Grandma loved her Garden where she spent endless hours trimming… Pruning and Mulching…. Grandma was a Girl of the Great Depression…Which we were reminded of often…Her main Motto was “Waste Not Want Not” well Grandma didn’t waste a thing her tea leaves were put on the Roses…. all of her food scraps and waste straight in to the compotser,…. She only turned her hot water on half an hour before she needed it, and all grey water went back in to the garden… I can still here her eccos to the children of you only need to flush once a day and 3 sheets of toilet paper is plenty… hmmm not sure about that one Granny…. Some may have called her Tight or maybe even Thrifty… in todays standards Granny was an Eco Warrior far more Environmentally Friendly than Steve Irwin or anyone on this earth!! Grandma was a Very proud lady and loved her Son and Grandchildren Dearly.. Grandma to all of us was something special; She glowed at the Sydney Olympic Games with her Son & Grandchildren… I recall her saying she never thought she would live to see an Event like this… she sat right next to the cauldron as it went by in the opening ceremony and Glowed with Pride… Later that year I was working With Slim Dusty and Grandma told me the story about how she played his Record first, well I retold the Story to Slim and He told me to ring her and get her in… Well John brought Grandma up and she Sat and Reminisced with Slim in the Smoky Daswon recliners for a good hour or so just Chatting with Slim like she did with all of us…. Well Grandma as you sit there next to Saint Peter… please don’t correct him too much… he has been waiting a long time for your help… Shine proudly on us with your Love and Diving light today and always… We Love and Miss You You’re forever in our hearts!!

Aunty Maureen you were my favourite amongst the large Gallagher family. You were a good talker and listener. Also I believe you were the most frugal person I know, we joked you could travel on one of your many trips overseas and back and use only one teabag. And you never wasted the leftover thermos tea when you arrived after the long trip from Sydney to the farm for many a visit, yes we all had to finish that thermos tea!!!! You were a kind and good Aunt. We loved you. At peace and with love bless you Aunty Maureen. Your neice Vicki and family

I first met Aunty Maureen when I was about 10years old, we lived in NZ and she had married my farthers brother Graham, she came over to visit our side of the family, I thought she was the most beutiful and wonderful person I had ever met, and she continued to be a very supportive and wonderful Aunt to me right into my adult life.
