I first met Martin when he played at the Alley Cat Jazz Club in El Paso in 1964. At that time I was a bass player and Mattin invited me to sit in but his bass player, Eddie Meyers, play an electric upright Ampeg Bass which was totally foreign to me So I asked Martin to Play something easy in G. He and Eddie invited me to the parking lot during a break which was the first time I ever smoked......Woofff. In 1968 I was playing and recording with Doug Sahm in Calofornia and Martin was playing with Doug, Jerry Garcia and others. At times, Martin would call and invite me to play a throw together gig in Mill Valley. The group, for one night only, was Jerry Garcia, Merl Saunders, Martin's drummer, Lion, Eddy Adams on bass, Me, Jackie King and a trumpet player. Great gigs, all improvised...... I played on the Doug Sahm's Honkey Blues album and the 2 + 2 album. Martin play Tenor, flute and was responsible for all horn arrangements. Martin had a completely identifiable "bite," or sound. Put ten tenor players on tape playing one note and you could easily distinguish Martin...fantastic player......

Thank you for all the good times we spent together. Your music and personality will be missed by all. I'm so glad we watched the sunset in Hawaii together. The show on the beach was the best time I ever had. We shared many special moments together over the years. You taught me about balance and helped me become who I am. It was you who told me I was an audio engineer before I even knew the term. Zero will last for ever in my mind... I'm so thankful for Jam Cruise and getting to see you play one last time. Your friend & taper Toni R. Fishman

Meesters was great saxophonist. It is a loss to the music fraternity. I loved his jamup sessions when i was there a couple of times. I will miss those sessions. May he RIP.
