Mark was probably my best friend. He was a lot of things, an explorer of the world and the mind, who sailed thousands of miles solo around Australia and Pacific islands (often with nothing more than a sextant and charts to guide him - on one trip he told me he almost dropped the sextant overboard and thought he might have been history if he had 30 years or so ago). - a humanitarian who loved animals and agonized over the state of the world as it was and continued to get worse; - a philosopher and innovator. Like-minded people (or whom there may be few) could spend endless hours in discussions with Mark. about the deepest frontiers of human understanding. He could have done so much with his life but seemed to be haunted by self-doubt. But who am I to judge, maybe he did what he was here to do. I can only hope and trust that the mind can continue, and that Mark will move on to a great new life somewhere. Unfortunately I won't see him again so the loss is mine.
