Lindon was my best friend from Grade 6 till about Grade 11, when I unfortunately chose the wrong path and found myself losing touch with all the people who were important to me. He truly was an amazing person, he always had a kind word for me regardless of my state of mind. He tried many times to help me as he was that kind of person. He was the first person who made me feel welcome when I started school in his homeroom class in Margaret Under-hill Elementary School in Transcona, Manitoba. I always new he would become successful at whatever he chose to do, he was always one to motivate others. My heart felt condolences go out to his family and friends, he was the nicest person I ever new. May peace find you where ever you are Lindon, Your friend always, Barry

I had Professor Barrett for a class in African American Autobiography at UCI - beyond introducing me to what would later be one of my favorite books, I remember more than anything the urgency with which he encouraged us to to think beyond ourselves - life is more than which celebrity is pregnant - the respect he had for the authors he taught, the joy he had in teaching us their message - we lost such a bright light too soon and his absence will be felt forever.

I never got a chance to meet him. But just watching his shows he seemed like part of my family I know we lost a good man. And he we truly be missed.

Just by being who he was, he helped so many people. He had so much heart, soul, and spirit. Like so many others, I loved him and will miss him for the rest of my life.

Prof Barrett was an amazing professor. I was a student of his at the University of California Riverside a year before he had passed. He was inspirational in his words and I'm deeply sad to hear of his death. He was the best.
