Karl saved my life. I wish I'd only had the opportunity to meet him. Thanks to his beautiful wife, Karl's memory lives on through saving the lives of many Australian lyme patients through the Karl McManus Foundation. Karl - You are an amazing man and have given Australian lyme patients a reason to fight and to make change. Thank you for giving us your fabulous wife to lead us in our quest.

What else! The JET engine in the unit block! Only via youtube but that was good enough. What a top bloke. We all are like Karl or have friends like him. That's what makes this world so great. My thoughts go out to you wife, family and good friends. Michael Bernhardt a complete stranger from Randwick NSW.

I came across the Leo youtube tribute this evening. Karl seems to have been the sort of human being everyone should meet at least once in their lifetime. I know that he shall be a source of inspiration in my heart and soul for as long as I shall ive. See you on the other side dear friend. From a complete stranger in Canada.

As a chronic Lyme sufferer who to was ignored by the same Australian government and medical practitioners i just cry whenever i think of poor Karl.I never met the man but i talk regularly with his wife who saved my life by telling me to send my bloods overseas for testing my symptoms early 2009 after my last tick bite at work resembled Karls my Lyme spread after being administered a steriod which has left me in crippling pain and struggling to breath due to vagus and cranila neuropathies. My daughter 4 yrs has also tested positive to Lyme and is being treated. When it all gets to much i think of karl and how he battled to live and i join the fight to educate these ignorant Australian so called experts that LYME is here and people are dying and being left to suffer chronic debilitating symptoms due to arrogance and neglect. This man even when struggling to talk could be heard in the background communicating with Marla ways in which i could get help what a special man truly special Rest in peace Karl i think of you everyday you give me the strength to carry on fighting when it seems so impossible Nat Young

There are no words to understand the complexity of a life and how a life touches so many people both seen and unseen. I am sorry that when you sought answers that would help more than just yourself; that they could not see you with better eyes. From all of the Borreliosis patients in Minnesota we express our condolences and applaud your pursuit of truth. Tom Grier MIBDEC

I was so sorry to hear the circumstances surrounding Karl's illness, the lack of attention by his doctors to recognise the seriousness of a tickborne illness and that he was allowed to eventually die without proper available medical care. I thank you his family for your efforts to expose the truth at what is such a difficult and sad time for you. Your efforts to find the truth will benefit others around the world who struggle for recognition of chronic neurological Lyme disease. Here where I live in Guildford Surrey Uk there are a growing number of patients diagnosed with Chronic Lyme Disease and on appropriate antibiotics getting their lives back. Thankfully some of our doctors are being open minded to ILADS approach of treatment on long term antibiotics, the latest patient I met was diagnosed with Polymyalgia Rheumatica and then eventually Parkinson's now he is diagnosed with Lyme Disease and on appropriate antibiotics his symptoms are improving. It will be a long time before our Health authorities accept the truth. Thank you

I came across the sad news of Karl’s passing in the newspaper. We studied mechanical engineering together over 20 years ago and became friends. We had some crazy times with cars back then. I recall an old car that Karl had as his run around and the engine burnt out. The two of us went and picked up a spare engine that he had, brought to the car and replaced it by the side of the road. His pride and joy at the time was his FIAT 124S and he loved that car. Karl was a natural instinctive engineer with a practical outlook to finding solutions. Even though it has been a long time since we have been in touch, his jovial nature and commonsense is something that always stuck with me. I would often think of those days we studied together, fixed cars together, laughed together.....and built some crazy contraptions like the golf ball cannon that Karl affectionately named the Doonk. To Karl’s family, my sincere condolences. Glenn Jelich

Karly was our stepbrother from when he was four. Our favourite memory of Karly was when we were kids and we would all go on our annual holidays to Coolangatta with our dad and Robyn and of course his love of Fiats! RIP KARLY
