Our dad was more than some restaurant guy to us. We went through so much together with him and as a family. One summer we went off to Jersey Shore in a brand new 1975 station wagon complete with wooded siding. We piled in, the six of us and our new dog still a pup at this stage. Somewhere between the city and the Jersey tpke the poor little border collie managed to get car sick.. We were forced to drive with the windows down for the rest of the trip, which with traffic was a good three hours at least. I was never to glad to see that shore when we finally arrived.

"He was a great family man." said Ken Gordon, current head at Restaurant Associates. All of Dad's co-workers know this about him. His loss will be felt because he loved and gave of himself openly to others. He worked for some of New York City's busiest restaurants. But he made himself free each and every Sunday and every other Saturday morning.. We knew our busy dad and loved him for the duration of his life with us. More importantly, we liked him as a person. While he was sick, there was never the slightest complaint out of him. He struggled along through the house, laying around, forcing himself to be up and about through the ordeal that was chemo. But he insisted on those everning walks with mom. Before he became ill, he and mom would be one of those rare and loving older couples who after some fifty years of marriage, continued to take each other by the hand while they walked along the road. While Dad was sick , the roads became longer and more challenging. Each step must have seemed like a mile to him.. The walks gradually slowed and shortened, while Mom had him by his arm chatting and encouraging him as best she could. He smiled all the while, seeming to appreciate all that was important during those moments. All his life, he enjoyed sharing an appreciation of the heavens. Daddy would often look to the night's sky, and spot constellations and comment on the conditions of the clouds and moon. He would always be entheused on a clear night. He seemed to appreciate the sunset too. He loved life..More to the point though, our dad showed a profound understanding of how to live life.
