For 11 years I helped John with his various computer needs but also knew him by sight in the Artarmon shopping strip years before this due to his distinctive formal dress and fedora hat making his way by train to and from his work by train. He had working in PNG many years earlier and as I'd grown up there we had a few interesting discussions about our time there. I'm sure at the very least he will be missed by those in his unit complex as he seemed to take his role on the committee very seriously and I'm sure was a positive influence. He seemed in good health for his age when I saw his last year so it comes as a shock to learn of his passing.
