I knew John from primary school, he was the class clown, always funny and always in trouble for it. We lost contact when we went to secondary school, I next saw John more than 20 years later, both working at the hospital, there he was walking up the corridor, bold as brass, he looked at me and I looked at him and there was recognition! John was one of life's truly good people, a great childhood friend and the nicest guy you could ever meet. My condolences go out to John's family. R.I.P John, the world is not so bright with you gone.

dear john hi john we had your funeral yesterday lots and lots of poeple came it just goes to show you how respected and loved you were .everybody was talking about memories they had of you .and it got me thinking about when my marriage broke up. and the day i was walking home and we bumped into each other in the street. and you asked me if i was ok. i told you about my marriage breaking up . and you invited me and the kids to your flat for dinner as you lived just across from us then . you made us sausage and mash and beans . and you let me just talk to you . you didnt state any particular opinion but just listened .which at the time was just what i needed . the next day you came to my flat just to check i was ok and told me if either me or the kids needed any thing you were just across the way .you were a real friend .all your jokes aside this is another great memory i have of you .losing you has been a hard blow for everyone it wasnt until yesterday that i relized that you were accually gone it also made me relize how much poeple take life for granted and that there is always a tomorrow sleep well and thankyou for being my friend hayley

30 years i knew John, growing up together so i have lots of happy memories, from him winding up the form tutor at school to playing football in the park, at the sea bathing and Jacky Bakers. Going to youth club on a friday night and being made to go to church on a sunday morning. The parties we went to in the mid eighties were truly memorable. Sharing the same taste in music we went to the unforgettable 'Madstock' gigs in Finsbury park and saw Paul Weller at the Winter Gardens in the nineties. Many a night was spent at the Birchington United Services club trying to 'get lucky' but we both failed miserably!. I don't know why but we went to night classes to learn German both of us failing but it was a good laugh. In recent years we haven't been so close but still swapped texts and phone calls. The last time we spoke was in the middle of March after John had given my number to a customer at work who needed some decorating doing. When i met the chap he asked me if me and John were related. Thats not the first time i've been asked that. How could we be? he had more hair than me!. John was a great mate and i'll miss him dearly. Deepest sympathy for Mrs Clarke and family. R.I.P. John from you mate Neil

john was a decent footballer seen here ready to play in goal for thanet hospitals or The canary men. john could play in goal or through the middle borne out by the fact that he was leading goalscorer for the B team during the five-a-side campaign of 1995-1996. john was greatly respected by the team & The whole team wore black arm bands for john during there wednesday night league match. He will be grreatly missed by the whole team our thoughts are with his family.

I write as a mark of respect for John and to give my sincere condolences to his family at this time. I knew John as a work colleague, a footballing team-mate, and as a friend. I was saddened to hear of his premature death. In my experience John was one of society's friends, a harmless-to-all, happy character who I am proud to have known. His passing away has left a large gap in many peoples hearts. With greatest respect and sympathy. Paul G. Jowitt R.N.

nobby was like a brother to me always up for a joke. he was someone who cared about his family & friends. i knew john or the bandit from primary school through to adulthood & he always looked out for me. john was a superb soldier & some may say he should have been a regular but he served in the TA & always faced any challenge head on. what john didn't know about the military wasn't worth knowing. he was a great lover of music madness being his primary band but he also loved reggae ,bob marley, ub40 & was a avid follower of paul weller. i will miss john all my days, losing him is like having a void i can never ever fill. my deepest sympathys go to his mum josie & his family. sleep well mate the last post is playing for you. love colin, nikki, ben & harry

John was always around while I was growing up, he used to push me around in my pushchair and change my nappies! He always made us laugh, and was known for his love of women, music and his moped. Although I didn't see him loads before his death I will always hold really fond memories of him and my brothers and sisters together. Rest in peace, love you loads xxxxxxx
