So sad to hear the loss of a remarkable human being. A fantastic photographer, mentor, lecturer, he saw the magic in all of us who had the honour of being one of his students! For the beautiful memories, the encouragement, advice and honesty that you gave us. Your generosity, passion and love that you gave us all for life and photography will forever live on.

So sad to hear of the loss of yet another of our truly great photographers. I had the pleasure of working with John for some years back in the days of Collins Street and the knowledge he (and Athol) so freely imparted to me stood me in great stead when I became the first to two professional sales rep’s dealing exclusively with the professional photographic trade. Just like your father John, and many others I could name, you were one of the great ones of an era now gone. I’ll always remember our days together. My deepest sympathies to your family. Ian Carron.
John's legacy as a photographer, teacher and mentor remains with so many of us. For the lifelong journey that you helped so many of us begin, thank you. Your passion and inspiration continues on in all the lives you've touched. WIth deepest condolences
Farewell John, a stalwart of Australian photography. From all at the Ballarat International Foto Biennale.
