Junior, I miss you so much! I had a dream about you that seemed so real I woke up and started crying. We were having our Tuesday movie night as we did nearly every Tuesday (that was new release day at Walmart). I knew you my whole life, and will miss you for the rest of my life. We laughed about our childhood and talked about our life plans and dreams. I wish you could have been here to see what we talked about come to fruition. Love you always, Anna

I served in the Marine Corps with John when he first got out of boot camp. I assisted with his training when we were with MWHS-2 G-1 Plans at Cherry Point, NC. John was a good friend and I was saddened to hear of his passing. My prayers go out to his family and close friends. He will truly be missed. Semper Fi

I have known John for many years. First at Eau Claire High School when he joined the band and later at South Carolina State University where he joined the Marching 101 Band. He was many things to many people. Above all else he was loyal, dedicated, driven, and honest. We miss you, Bovain!

I was John's first SNCOIC in the fleet. He was an outstanding Marine. One day after he first reported to my office, I asked him what he should do if there was a fire. He looked at me with all seriousness and said "I'm gonna jump out the window". We must have laughed about that for a year. As John became a more seasoned Marine, I saw the greatness in him and decided to send him to jump school. School seats for administrators were hard to come by. I only got two in my 20 year career. One of those seats when to John. He is truly missed and I was blessed to know him. God Bless you John Bovain. Semper Fi.

As long as I live, Sgt John Bovain’s memory will never die. I had the pleasure of being apart of John’s life while he served honorably under my charge at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry. He was a true professional, honest and dedicated Marine, Father and friend. Rest well my brother!

We spoke many times in the MCDP program. We had a connection, in the fact that we were two african-american Marines who were mature and bound to succeed past our already successful lives. You were a great man to know and a Marine to immulate. Your professional and reserved approach was one that was not common as a Marine sergeant, but it was greatly respected. R.I.P. Sergeant Bovain.

John and I met the first day we arrived at SCSU. He, my roommate, and I became daily walking buddies from class. John always knew how to get a smile out of you, correction, laugh out of you even if you didn't feel like it. And for some of those State days...that was priceless. He was always a true friend. I thank God for allowing for me the pleasure of knowing John. I will miss him dearly. To his family, I pray the Lord gives you peace, strength, and understanding during this difficult time. R.I.P. John. I love you.

I remember when I first met you, that you was cooler than a fan and my husband's roommate as well as he's closest friend. You was always laid back, funny and just a cool person to be around. I'm sorry to hear that you're gone but I know you're in a better place. I pray that God will be with your family and friends while they're coping with their lost. R.I.P. Bo and God Bless.

I remeber John well. I want his family to know that they are in my prayers. GOD has a master plan and we all play our part within that plan. Although this is surely a tradegy for us all that knew him and for the ones that loved him. We must continue to thank GODD for all the good times that we were allowed to enjoy and partake with hime before his part was played. I am praying for you all during this time of sadness. I am so sorry for your loss!
