When I think of Jackie, I remember a smiling, happy, radiant person with a ring to her voice and laughter. I saw her a few months before she went to Afghanistan. As always, she was joyful and lovely. I think of her so often ... and each time I do I feel a deep loss. Those who knew and loved her lost a loved one. But the world also lost a shining light. She was tirelessly dedicated to her work, and a source of inspiration to everyone who knew her. She is missed and will be ... Cheshmak

Jackie Kirk was my teacher when I was a little girl in elementary school. She helped me found an environmental organisation, brought me to a conference about St. Lawrence water pollution, helped us organize tree plantings and raise money and awareness against desertification. She helped to bring me to understand the injustices of this world and how we can help as individuals. The ideals she taught me exist always. I have graduated from university now in International Development and work as an educator for peace. I hope to work in Humanitarian Aid and keep working on her mission. As a 9- year- old, I asked her once what I could do for children in other countries, to help them. After all, I am only one person and a small one at that. She looked at me and said, 'you can change their world'. And she made me believe it. God Bless you Jacquie.

Those who had the privilege of knowing and working with Jackie would never forget her, and her inspiration will remain with us for the rest of our lives. Thank you Jackie for being such a passionate defender of education, specially for destitute girls, and for inspiring us to continue fighting for children's rights and human rights. You haven't left us, your energy and passion is always with us.

Last year I have met Jackie and we shared ideas on Sudan and Afghanistan. Girls going to school, women empowerment, it is important for all kinds of reasons... I hope her death can and will encourage us to continue this difficult struggle. But right now I just feel the loss. For her, for her husband and for her family. For Afghanistan, a country suffering from violence for so long. For what sake? I truly hope that Jackie and her family can find peace with this tragic loss! Although I never had the honor of meeting Jackie face to face, she reached out in email after the most recent CIES Conference to share and build community within a share of our work concerning those areas in which she focused, particularly the rights and safety for women in conflict regions and the reverent importance of efforts to reach out to these women through education and a creation of safe and equitable environs for their growth. I was shocked and deeply saddened to learn of Jackie's death. Her spirit, warmth, compassion, commitment, and passion for her work and the future were evident and remarkably clear through just a short series of emails. I believe it was a blessing to have been touched by Jackie's professional camaraderie and I can imagine the honor of all those whom have worked with and alongside her during her career and life. Please I am extending towards her husband, her family, and all in her community my deepest wishes for peace for Jackie, and wishes of peace and healing for all who knew her and loved her and were touched by her. As people have written here and elsewhere, may we continue the honor of Jackie's tremendous dedication, groundswell spirit, and profound devotion she showed and shared with the world.

The world needs more people like Jackie, not less. I was very saddened at the news of Jackie's death. She was living my dream, but the good that has come from this; I am even more determined to take her place in this world. My condolences go out to her family. She is in a better place now, among others like her... Angels.

On behalf of Cordaid I would like to express our deepest sympathy and condolences with the relatives, friends and colleagues of Jacky and her colleagues whom got killed as well. I hope they will find comfort and strength and inspiration to deal with the sadness, out of the dear memories they bear in their hearts. Again a great loss of people who are prepared to work and struggle on the frontiers of civilisation and bring along with them one of the most basic elements in our work: hope to those without, regardless themselves. It is really sad to hear about Jackie Kirk although I didn't know her. Our sincere sympathy to her family and friends from Save the Children Sweden Pakitan Staff. May she now rest in blessed peace and may her family and friends find much comfort in memories of happier days perhaps long past but precious all the same.

I didn't know Jackie personally, but heard of her sad loss through the Emergency Personnel Network (EPN). As a member of the humanitarian community, I am full of admiration and awe for people like Jackie; courage like Jackie's never fails to astound me and only strenghtens my determination to continue our work. My thoughts and prayers are with family and friends.

While I did not have the privilege of knowing Jackie personally, I have come to understand over the last week of the impact Jackie made on so many lives. As a dedicated humanitarian, Jackie was committed to helping those less fortunate. Travelling to the most dangerous regions of the world, Jackie, as with other humanitarian workers, was often driven more by a sense of bettering the world and of helping others then of anything else. With this, she paid the ultimate sacrifice. Her dedication and passion shall forever be celebrated. Nick Ayre CARE Canada
