Ian spun a good yarn both in his professional and personal lives. Could see a conspiracy brewing months in advance of anyone else and, often, was proved right! Maree and I are missing Ian and are sorry that we never got to invite him to share a good bottle of red at our new home in Mount Martha. Still, we can toast his memory forever wherever we are.

We headed to distant shores many times together - particularly to a place we both really enjoyed - Canada. Travel well my friend - your company was always something special.

Ian was a highly intelligent, kind and remarkable colleague, an excellent writer and a witty and insightful travelling companion. His knowledge and analysis of complex issues was legendary, his enjoyment of life was obvious and his sense of humour delightful. I am very sorry to hear of his passing.

Ian was a wise counsel, a very shrewd assessor of people and power, a very witty and exceptionally learned person and a treasured and loyal friend. I'm at a loss to accept his passing. None of those who worked with Ian will ever forget his wisdom and wit,
