I remember when the series aired on PBS in the early 80's, but wasn't able to see it as we lived in the country and couldn't pick up the signal. But, thanks to Netflix, I was finally able to see his fine performance as the African king and legend. I was so sorry to hear he has passed on. My sympathies to his family, and you should be so very proud of his legend!

I am so glad to see a padre devoted to this man. I remember watching Chaka Zulu on tv when it originally aired in America in the 80's...not to long after I'd just studied Chaka Zulu as well as other great Kings & Queens of Africa in University. It was refreshing to see such strength & intelligence displayed in a tv role played by a Black (African) male at that time. He became my teen idol and I've been in love every since. Now I have my OWN African male who also exhibits such strength. My African love is Yoruba but manifest the same strength & intelligence that Mr cele modeled in that role for me as a youth. I thank both Mr Cele and my own father for that!! Mr Cele you & your talent are truly missed!!! I wish UE family a Happy New Year!

The uncanny role you played as Chaka Zulu is unparalleled to any other actor. I saw this film as a teenager and have it on VHS. I am now recording it on my DVR, thanks to Centric, to share with my children when they become of age. I was sad to find after googling your name that you are no longer with us. I don't even remember CNN, FOX, or NBC covering this tragedy!

I only found out today of his passing. I have Shaka Zula on VHS and pull it out every couple of years and watch the entire thing. I is truly one of my favorite mini series. I thought it was about time I purchased it on DVD and went to Amazon.com, I have come close to doing this before. For some reason I just decided to google his name just to see what he had been up to. I had no idea he had passed away and such a while back. An unforgettable performance, an extraordinary actor. Absolute gorgeous to watch in that movie as well. Saddened by some of the other things written which may have been troubling him. So glad that many in his homeland hold him in such high regard. May he rest in peace.

I just found out of his passing I was just watching the film Shaka Zulu and decided to google his work. It is with sadness for such a fine actor he was as I watched his performance saw Shaka Zulu and not the actor. May God forgive his sins and grant him paradise and my condolences to the family.http://static.respectance.com/m1/memories/1fl4c7bd8rhq5x_s.png

I fell under Henry Cele's spell many, many years ago when I first watched Shaka Zulu. He had a presence, an intensity and a bearing so regal that it couldn't simply be attributed solely to an actor playing a historical figure. He defined the very essence of manhood. I dont know what actually happened to lead up to the events of his death, but i am definitely sad to read of his passing. This one wans certainly molded be a divine hand. May Almighty God have mercy upon him, forgive his sins and grant him Paradise.

I actually have always loved this movie. I was graced with the opportunity to watch my all time favorite moving twice over the weekend!!! I own it but there is nothing like watching it without having to change discs!!! I have always loved the stature Henry Cele gave to Shaka's character. He played the part to the fullest. My second favorite movie is Ghost and Darkness! I had no idea that Mr. Cele had passed and my prayers and love are with his family. Thank you for the opportunity to witness such great talent and beauty. Not only was he perfect for the part, but he was just a beautiful man to view as well. May he rest in peace and may the family live in peace. Oh and FYI that newsletter about him being violent in his last days was just crass and should have never been published about someone so great. But as we all know, the media has no tact!

I watched the movie yesterday and it's been about 5yrs or so since I've seen it. Mr. Cele was truly a great actor who deserved a great recognition for this role. As I watched I became attracted to his character's strength, intelligence, wisdom, and abs! Yes abs and what a body! I don't think they could have picked a better actor to bring Shaka Zulu to life! Too bad he is not around to bless us again with his extraordinary acting skills. Mr. Cele you will always be remembered as one of the greatest in my heart. Rest in peace.

SHAKA ZULU WAS A SUPERIOR WARRIOR AND KING, HOWEVER, HE WAS SAID TO BE BLOODTHIRSTY AND FILLED WITH HATRED. SHAKA WAS BORN OUT OF WEDLOCK TO AN 'ORPHAN" WOMAN NAMED NANDI WHO WAS FROM ANOTHER NEIGHBORING TRIBE. BECAUSE HE WAS BORN OUT OF WEDLOCK HE WAS TORMENTED AND "BULLIED" BY THE OTHER CHILDREN IN THE TRIBE HE AND HIS MOTHER RESIDED. EVENTUALLY SHAKA AND HIS MOTHER WAS "EXILED" FROM THIS TRIBE. HE AND HIS MOTHER FOUND SOLACE AND ACCEPTANCE IN ANOTHER TRIBE. THE SEED OF HATRED WAS PLANTED INTO SHAKA BECAUSE OF THE BULLYING HE ENDURED AND THE OSTRACISM HE AND HIS MOTHER ENDURED.HE CARRIED THIS HATRED THROUGHOUT HIS WHOLE LIFE MAINLY BECAUSE HIS FATHER, THE" KING" OF THE ZULU'S, WOULD NOT ACKNOWLEDGE HIM OR HIS MOTHER SO HIS HATRED GREW AND GREW BECAUSE OF THE REJECTION HE AND HIS MOTHER ENDURED. WHEN HIS FATHER, THE KING DIED, HE STILL DID NOT "RECOGNIZE" SHAKA AS A LEGITIMATE HEIR TO THE THRONE. THE KING NAMED ONE OF HIS HALF BROTHERS AS HIS SUCCESSOR. THROUGH FORCE, SHAKA USURPED HIS HALF BROTHER AND DECLARED HIMSELF KING AND THE BLOODTHIRSTY REIGN OF SHAKA ZULU BEGAN. AS THE YEARS PASSED, HIS MOTHER NANDI TOLD HIM THAT HE NEEDED TO PRODUCE AN HEIR TO THE THRONE OF THE ZULU TRIBE. HE REFUSED BECAUSE HE DID NOT EVEN TRUST A CHILD OF HIS OWN. HE FELT THAT A MALE HEIR WOULD EVENTUALLY TURN ON HIM AND MURDER HIM TO GAIN POWER OF HIS THRONE AND OF THE ZULU TRIBE LIKE THE KINGS OF OTHER TRIBES EXPERIENCED. IT IS SAID THAT SHAKA NEVER HAD SEXUAL RELATIONS WITH ANY WOMAN DURING HIS LIFETIME FOR FEAR OF PRODUCING A MALE CHILD THAT MIGHT USURP HIM. IN THE MOVIE A WOMAN HAD A SON FOR HIM THAT HE ORDERED KILLED. THIS WAS "FICTION" BECAUSE THERE IS NO HISTORICAL PROOF THAT HE HAD ANY CHILDREN. HE WAS SO CLOSE TO HIS MOTHER NANDI THAT WHEN SHE DIED HE SLOWLY LOST HIS MIND. HE STARVED HIS PEOPLE AND BROUGHT HAVOC AND THE SHEDDING OF BLOOD OF THOUSANDS OF HIS PEOPLE. BECAUSE OF HIS INSANITY HE WAS MURDERED BY BOTH OF HIS HALF BROTHERS, THROWN INTO A PIT AND THE PIT WAS FILLED WITH ROCKS AND MUD. THIS IS WHAT "BULLYING" AND "REJECTION" DOES TO CHILDREN - IT FOSTERS HATE LIKE IT WAS FOSTERED AND MAINTAINED DURING THE LIFE OF SHAKA ZULU.. ..

WHAT A MAN, WHAT A MAN, WHAT A MAN. WHAT A FINE, FINE, MAN !!! HIS WALKIN', HIS STALKIN', HAS ALL US WOMEN TALKIN' !!! THOSE ABS, THOSE CALVES, GAVE "POWER" TO HIS ASS !!! THE "SIZE" OF HIS FEET MADE MANY WOMEN WANNA' "TWEET" !!! THAT BODY, THAT BODY, THAT BODY. THAT SCULPTED BODY !!! THAT STARE, THAT GLARE, MAKE A WOMAN WANT TO "BARE" !!! I KNOW HE'S GONE, BUT THE MAN WAS BAD TO THE BONE !!! SHAKA ZULU REST IN PEACE !!!

I just learned that Mr.Henry Cele has passed away. I had always wondered what he was doing. Being an American, I guess there wasn't a lot of coverage on his passing - how sad. Mr. Cele, thank you for your brilliiant and capitivating performance of King Shaka Zulu. I was 34 when the series came out and I am now 59. I have watched Shaka Zulu at least 30 times over the years and I am now watching Shaka Zulu on the Centric channel as I type this. Your performance was one in a million but your inner beauty and spirit shined. I thank you for educating me on the struggles and accomplishments of King Shaka and his people. Great African Kings were not subject matter when I was in school. I fell in love with you and Africa at the same time. I have always felt that you were a part of my life even if only from a distance. I used to joke with my friends that you were my first and true love if only in my dreams. I hope your family finds comfort in knowing how loved you were by so many. GOD doesn't make mistakes - he loaned you to us for a short while - what a blessing it was know you if only from the silver screen. I will always love you and will keep you and your family in my prayers. May you rest in eternal peace.

I am also watching the Shaka Zulu mini-series re-run. I was always astounded at how Henry Cele played his role. The regal arrogance, elegant bearing, dignified enunciation and uncanny intelligence that he gave the Shaka character was incredible. I felt that I was watching the Zulu king himself. I am saddened to know Mr Cele is no longer and that his last days were not dignified, elegant or intelligent. He deserved better.

I just learned today of the passing of Mr. Henry Cele and I am grieving his loss. Are there enough words to describe a man who took you back in time and introduced you to a dynamic figure in history? In all my years in school, I never heard of the greatness of true African leaders. Shaka's childhood and rise to manhood were painful and people everywhere can empathizewith Shaka and cheer when he replaced his father years later. Mr. Cele brought Shaka, King of the Zulu to life for me and multitudes of others who never heard of him before. I am sad that he was not recognized for his fantastic portrayal like he should have been among the entertainment industry. Life is unfair, but I will never forget your role as Shaka of the Zulus. God bless your wife and family

My son, who is now 23 years old, does not miss a beat on watching this epic film. To the family of Mr. Cele, you were blessed to have him and share him with the common man/woman. May God continue to keep you at peace for he is at peace.

In the 60's I saw the movie "Zulu" and I recall an earlier movie involving the Zulus called "The Untamed." Then in the 80's I saw "Shaka Zulu" and "Zulu Dawn." 3 out of 4 are in my permanent collection. Henry Cele's portrayal of KIng Shaka was compelling and I was shocked to hear of his passing almost 3 years after he died. I would have wished him a long and happy life so I am still sad to know that he left this Earth much too soon. So many of the movies of my childhood portrayed Native Americans and Native African Tribes as violent savages. "Shaka Zulu" told a story of a civilization with traditions, laws, and a political structure. No different from other nations and empires throughout history. Thank you again Henry. I will always watch you as Shaka for the rest of my life.

Shaka as portrayed by Henry Celes was fantastic movie and mini series. Henry"s portrayal as Shaka must have been one of the best selections of any actor to play the part of Shaka the Zulu. Henry's acting was very credible and very believable.. Henry was a fantastic actor. The guys whoi put the movie and mini series together did a fantastic job. This movie must rank as one of the all time greats of movies. To all who made this movie happen and especially to Henry Celes you have made one of the greatest movies...ever...!!! You can all rest on your laurels because you all deserve the accolades that are bestowed on you... May Henry Celes rest in peace...!~~~~
