Brian made a big impression on my early career at CSIRO. I will remember him as a big warm character with a great accent and time to discuss issues ranging from science to bicycles to social issues. He ran a great research division and was always preprared to mentor younger staff. He will be missed but remembered for a long time.
I worked for Brian Tucker from 1984 to 1992 when he was Chief of the CSIRO Division of Atmospheric Research. It was a delight to work for him, always appreciative and encouraging. He popularised atmospheric science by talking about it on a regular spot on the Michael Schildberger Show on ABC 3LO. He also was the first to alert politicians to the issue of climate change when he presented a briefing on it to the Australia and New Zealand Environment and Conservation Ministerial Council.
