I did not know Mrs. Newsome, but I knew her son, Mike, thru Don Smith. He was a very good friend to Don and treasured friendships very dearly. To me, Mrs. Newsome had a great impact on his life. I appreciate all of Mike's help when purchasing my home and comfort he has given me and Don's family when he passed. May the family be comforted during this time of bereavement. Mary Walker

Exa is my first cousin, however, she was more like a sister to me. We were born 6 months apart and shared everything. I miss her so much and think about her daily. Exa fought a good fight and now she is home, resting in the arms of our Lord. Rest in peace my dear sister.

This wonderful lady took care of me and guided me for over thirty years,when my mother could not be here in Houston. I always felt very welcome in her home during and after the holidays. I always felt like a daughter to her. When she could not get in touch with Mike, Mrs. Newsome would call me to see if I heard from her son or know there he was; and of course, I would always tell her just like a little sister suppose too. I met Mrs. Newsome one time and she made me feel right at home with her good food and warm conversation. I could not attend the services in her memory, but I wanted the family to know that all of you are in my prayers.

Words cannot express the deep sorrow and sadness I feel that Mother Newsome is not here to share the abundance of love that was Exa Mae Newsome. She was, for all practical purposes, my Houston mother. Mother Newsome made sure I had a warm meal when ever I visited her. During each holiday, she made sure we all ate and took some food home for later. When someone was shot at a restaurant close to my office, Mother Newsome called to make sure I was alright and then she gave me tips on how to stay safe. When a couple drowned in their car in the lake in my subdivision, Mother Newsome bought me a hammer to break my car window should I find myself trapped underwater in the car. I will never forget her warm and welcome smile. I will never forget her kind and tender voice. I know Mr. Newsome, Tony and Mike feel a deeper loss, but it is my loss also. May her soul Rest In Perfect Peace. With her personality, I am certain she is there preparing the way for us to arrive smoothly – for it is inevitable that all of us will join her some day.
