I know this is very much belated, but it is none the less heartfelt. I first met Dave in 1970, when we both worked in the Commonwealth Bank and lived in Richardson House in Canberra. Dave and I talked often about our interests in music and Australian folklore - I think I sold him his first guitar - the reddish one! We became friends and continued our interests right through our lives and our paths often crossed at music festivals and events. I think of him often, and I miss our chats when we did catch up every now and then. Dave was a very fine man and I'm sure he will be sadly missed by all those who had the fortune to know him. I met Dave for the first time at the National Folk Festival in Canberra earlier this year. He seemed like a really nice guy. I nominated myself for the position of spoken word co-ordinator for the festival next year, and Dave offered to assist me if I needed any help. I was shocked and saddened to read of his recent death in the newsletter of the Australian Bush Poets' Association.

I first met Dave Meyers when I wrote a letter to all MEYERS listed in the Sydney directory, seeking relatives and engaging in family history research. Dave's sister wrote back to me providing a great amount of their family details and nominated Dave as the champion of their family history. we combined our work with that of Peter Dun and Ian Sinclair. we achieved great leaps forward and then backwards. We all enjoyed sharing and Dave became focused on our convict heritage. He was in the process of researching the Meyers' family travels from Tasmania to New Zealand when he became so ill. Nono of us were aware of the terrible diagnosis he had received. We are so sad to have lost a friend and cousin. There is a photo of John Meyers and Dave Meyers together at John and Clare's daughter's home on Christmas day 2005. Dave and his love of life will stay with us as a wonderful memory. We miss you and will try to focus on your gudiance and encouragement. WE are all truly richer to have met and known you John and Clare Meyers Port Macquarie
